Kill Bill’s Browser: use Firefox
p2p news / p2pnet: Firefox exists! Who says? Bill and the Boyz.
A week after announcing its Live.com ‘initiative,’ Microsoft admits it’s added support for the open source Mozilla Firefox browser, says PC Pro.
But that’s no reason for not getting behind another initiative, this time a genuine one from Downhill Battle.
The non-stop action group is running its own Kill Bill campaign and is even telling you how to make money at it.
Google is offering $1 for every referral to Firefox with Google toolbar. So, DHB has written a free script you can install on your website to detect IE and encourage people to switch. For every user you encourage to switch, you get a $1.
“For some time now, some of us who work on Downhill Battle have been been thinking about trying to get more aggressive about switching people from Internet Explorer to the better, open source browser, Firefox,” says DHB.
So, “When Google announced the bait, we figured the time was right to help sites get their readers to switch. It’s very possible to get Internet Explorer down to under 50% of all web browsers. This is the best chance we’ve ever had.”
With that in mind, DHB has opened a couple of new web pages, one a serious site where you can download the anti-IE, money paying script, and the other a parody which includes one of the best reasons ever seen for moving from Bill and the Boyz to Mozilla.
It’s a clip which has grotesque Microsoftee cult leader Steve ‘I’m going to fucking kill Google’ Ballmer working, and we do mean working, a crowd into a frenzy. It’s on the DHB Kill Bill’s Browser lampoon page and just in case, we have it here as well. But what the clip doesn’t show is a sweaty, maniacal Ballmer leaping onto the stage, bouncing up and down screaming, ‘Give it up for me’ at the top of his voice.
Unbelievable. This is the number two man in the world’s most powerful monopoly?
OK, Steve. We’ll give it up. But for Firefox, not you.
Stay tuned.

Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance.

I long ago left the IE browser. Simply it is just too open to unwanted “additions”. Much of that is because of user preferance settings but not all. Because the browser defaults to acceptance the user much choose and know what choices to make in order to secure the OS and the browser. Without making security default instead of choice, many users are left out in the cold by not understanding what is required to make security work. Microsucks for all their trumpting does nothing to inform those users what choices they should make and why they should make them.
New users to the internet and to the OS have no clue and are purposefully left in the dark. As a result they wind up being like the mushroom. I am sure all have heard how mushrooms are treated.

Damn! Firefox referrals are for US citizens only. For the moment.

Just found a web site that is giving away a chance to win $10,000 if you download and install Firefox.
I think it makes more sense to share the profit with the actual users.
