Morpheus 4 officially released
Morpheus’ latest rev – Morpheus 4 – has now been officially released.
But the timing was strange, to put it mildly.
This is also the day Streamcast Networks, Morpheus’ owner, does battle with Hollywood, together with rival commercial p2p app Grokster.
Be that as it may, users will now have simultaneous connectivity to users of Kazaa, iMESH, eDonkey, Overnet, Grokster, LimeWire, Gnutella, G2 and others through M4’s single ‘Super’ application, promises Streamcast.
"Radically enhanced," it has a number of new features including a free VoIP voice chat so users can talk to each other globally "at no cost," says Streamcast.
Others include:
* No spyware
* Integrated access to public proxy networks – provides greater user anonymity
* Hashed IPs – conceals the user’s IP address within Morpheus
* Privacy options to prevent others from snooping on users
* Integrated anti-virus protection with user’s virus scanning software
* Advanced parental controls
* Built-in media organizer
* File-Shredder to completely delete unwanted files
But the Big Question (apart from whether or not it’ll survive Hollywoods latest attempt to Make P2P Its Own) is:
Does it work as advertised?
Ninety-four percent of the people who’ve grabbed it from Download.com think it does.
