Brazil leader saw ‘pirate’ flic
p2p news / p2pnet: Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was reportedly “saddened” to learn a movie he watched during a flight to Moscow hadn’t been officially released.
“Officials said the president’s advisers had been responsible for obtaining an illegal copy of the Oscar-nominated film ‘2 Sons of Francisco’,” says the BBC.
Lula watched the movie, “well before legal copies hit the market,” says the story, which doesn’t explain who complained about it, how they found out or who was behind the media leak.
However, “The Brazilian president’s Workers’ Party has been recently engulfed by a scandal over illegal funding and alleged bribery in Congress,” says the BBC, adding:
“Lula has seen his own popularity ratings fall, although he has not been directly implicated in the scandal.”
Not only but also, Brazil this year decided to drop Microsoft in favour of open source.

The president is a man of the people…. he does what everyone in Brasil does. Only in police states are people like the president of Brasil sued or sent to jail for dowloading, filming, copying, viewing, listening.
I wonder what will necome of me. I was at a party a few days ago and all I heard was music from CDs which I did not verify to determine if they CDs were original or copies. It never crossed my mind that everyone in the party could have been arrested by the FBI.
To play it safe, I will from now in ask all that I will visit to guarantee me that in his/her home there are no copies of videos or music CDs. I will not visit anyone who owns any ilegal copies. I will not be an accomplice of the terrorists even if I loose all my friends and relatives.

Maybe in Brasil watching copied dvd are not acts of terrorism over ther as it may be here.
Only in police states are persons sued and jailed for such common activities as downloading, sharing, copying, viewing and listening.
But here things are different. Last week I wen to a party and admittedly I was not careful enough. I did not ask my host friend if the music was from original or copied cds. Now I realize that if the police raided my friend’s home I may have been arrested for listening to pirated music.
From now on I will ask my friend if they will use only non pirated music at their parties. Sure, I will loose 99 percent all my friends, but I refuse to be an accomplice of the terrorists.
I wonder what Bush will do about this scandal. I do recommend to him to have his intelligence doublechecked by someone who is trustworthy and has no connections to RIAA/MPAA.

I live in Brazil and I can tell you that just about any movie you want is available in our open air markets for about US$4. Most music Cds are less than US$3. This goes for computer programs as well (including Windows, Adobe, etc). Copyright laws allow for the downloading of films and TV programs as long as you make no copies and they stay no longer than 24 hours on your hard drive.
I am not saying this is right but President Lula didn’t do anything that most other brazilians aren’t already doing.
Also taking into consideration what the women look like here, Man, this is PARADISE!!!

The self censorship and paranoia common to all police states, dictatorships etc starts off exactly like that.
First they tell you to stay away from criminals who might even be real criminals. Then they keep creating new groups of “criminals” using new laws which are increasingly restrictive and draconian. Eventually there’s noone left who doesn’t fear that the govt considers them a criminal, and feels they have to be prepared to sacrifice neighbours workmates and friends in order to protect themselves and family from the govt’s “secret” police.
Little do they realise that they are the reason the “secret” police know everything. Just look at what’s happened in post cold war germany as the files of informants have been declassified. Ppl have been discovering that their friends and even relatives were reporting to the authorities on their every move. It doesn’t get much media coverage probly because certain ppl don’t want anyone noticing what’s being done until it’s too late.
Anyone who tries to warn of whats being done will be ignored and drowned out by the mainstream media and if they do manage to get heard will be labelled a dissident and “treated”.
Just like our new shiny sedition laws in Oz. Of course they’ll never get used or abused. They’re just words. Trust the govt, the govt is your friend. Remember, Happiness is Mandatory.
