Verizon sues PI firm
p2p news / p2pnet: Sheriff’s deputies have seized files from a Florida private investigations company Verizon Wireless says was, “improperly obtaining its customers’ confidential information,” states the St Petersburg Times.
“The seizure occurred after Verizon Wireless sued Global Information Group in Hillsborough Circuit Court last week and obtained a temporary restraining order,” it goes on.
“Global Information Group, identified as a private investigative agency, impersonated Verizon Wireless employees and posed as customers to get the information, according to Verizon Wireless.”
In addition to electronic means, companies have taken the personal route, such as posing as operators, in their schemes to fool Verizon Wireless call centers into releasing information, the St Petersburg Times has Tampa Verizon Wireless spokesman Chuck Hamby saying
“We noticed a pattern in our customer service center. These folks are trained not to fall for this kind of stuff.”
Global Information Group made “thousands of attempts” to gather information about Verizon Wireless customers, the New York-based phone company said in a written statement, according to Bloomberg News.
“The suit, filed Nov. 2 in a Florida state court, claims the agency ‘impersonated’ employees of Bedminster, N.J.-based Verizon Wireless, the company said. Verizon said the court issued an order last week that temporarily prohibits Global Information from trying to contact Verizon’s customers or providing customer information to third parties.”
