New Sony DRM report
p2p news / p2pnet: p2pnet isn’t the only site to have been turned on by DRM
SunnComm recently issued a loud and very public denial following our ludicrous mock report of an Apple-Microsoft DRM product, supposedly developed jointly by SunnComm and Macrovision.
Now, “Many consumers are complaining about Sony’s new Cybershot DSCP515 camera that installs digital rights management (DRM) software on the person’s computer so they are unable to share their digital pictures with anyone,” says BBspot.
“People are sharing pictures all over the Internet without regard to copyright and trademarks,” it has Sony veep of copyright protection, Clay Wilkerson, saying, going on:
“Just the other day I saw a Halloween photo of a kid dressed up like Yoda. Don’t they know that Yoda’s image is wholly owned by Lucasarts? That behavior needs to be stopped.”
The camera DRM is similar to the Sony rootkit CD DRM says BBspot. “Picture sharing flies under the radar when it comes to piracy,” said Wilkerson. “People know about the dangers of music and movie piracy, but not about the dangers of sharing personal photos. What happens if a person takes a picture of Mariah Carey’s latest CD? Think of the children.”
Yes indeedy. Obviously, there are occasions when DRM must be employed to protect the innocent.
The caption under the Cookie Monster pic at the right reads, “”This Cookie Monster costume is not properly licensed for photo sharing by the Children’s Television Workshop. Thank goodness for Sony DRM.”
Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local political representatives. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance.

To me, fake news like that hurts this website. I come here for the news, if there are fake news every now and then the credibility of this website will take a plunge. I don’t mind having a section where we can make fun of things like that, but don’t mix up real and fake news toghether.
Its either a news site, or theonion.com

I am afraid I have to agree with you. I’ve been thinking about emailing Jon about this. I’d really hate to see his readership diminish. I do however like the fact that the lamescream media as well as the corporate mouthpieces (one and the same?) have fallen for his spoofs. This goes to show you that the government-cartel complex is becoming afraid.
