CD ‘pirates’ are drug pushers
p2p news / p2pnet: The movie industry’s MPAA reminds us of an old-time preacher —- full of two-faced self-righteousness while he’s screwing every male and female choir member in the back of the tent.
Hollywood is home to some of the seamiest happenings and seamiest people on the face of the earth and yet now, through its MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America), it’s apparently expecting to use the mainstream media to boost its portrayal of counterfeiting as a major crime, with the likes of MPAA boss Dan ‘Jedi’ Glickman as American Heroes.
Here’s a post on addicted3.org. We used the word ‘apparently’ because it’s so bizarre, even by Hollywood/MPAA standards, that we hesitate in saying it’s for real.
For example, in it is a statement attributed to Glickman, to wit:

The public is made safer by the MPAA? It can only be spoof. Right?

PIRATED DISCS, DVDS BECOMING “THE NEW DRUG ON THE STREET”
A fatal car chase on November 10 between a convicted felon in Virginia wanted by authorities on several criminal charges including cocaine possession yielded hundreds of pirated CDs and DVDs in the man’s trunk, giving rise to a new kind of traded drug, according to the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) Inc’s Dennis Supik.
“A lot of people we were arresting had drug conviction backgrounds. Actually, what they said was, ‘This is the new drug on the street,’” said Supik, an MPAA field investigator who assists local law enforcement in anti-piracy raids.
MPAA investigations teams routinely uncover evidence demonstrating that many of the gangs and syndicates involved in hard goods piracy are also heavily involved in other forms of illegal activity such as drug dealing. In September, Los Angeles police arrested Jose Maria Trujillo for possession of six bundles of powder cocaine, an ounce of marijuana, and selling illegal DVDs after a search of his car uncovered more than 2,000 pirated DVDs. During the same month, Federal and local authorities in New York arrested approximately 21 members of the violent Chinatown street gang “Yi Ging” who were involved in DVD and CD piracy as well as narcotics trafficking, loan sharking and other crimes.
In a 2003 testimony before the U.S. House of Representatives’ Committee on International Relations, Interpol Secretary General Ron Noble stated that the global trade in narcotics is estimated at $322 billion, while the global trade in counterfeit goods is estimated at $512 billion.
“Intellectual Property crime (IPC) is a lucrative criminal activity with the possibility of high financial returns. It is also relatively low risk as prison sentences tend to be light when compared to other criminal activity such as drug trafficking,” Secretary General Noble said in his testimony.
“We are aware that serious criminals are profiting from the illegal sales of DVDs. These types of operations are supporting networks of drugs and other criminal activity that we do not want on our streets,” said MPAA Chairman and CEO Dan Glickman. “The MPAA is working aggressively to root out piracy in all corners of the globe so that unfortunate events driven by this illegal activity are halted and the public is made safer.”
Working with law enforcement around the world, the MPAA seized more than 76 million illegal optical discs in 2004. A federal interagency report published that same year estimates that counterfeit and pirated goods, including those of copyrighted works, cost the American economy $250 billion a year. The MPAA estimates its member companies lost $3.5 billion last year due to piracy of hard goods alone, not including losses from illegal file-sharing on the Internet.
The MPAA and its member companies are tackling the major problem of piracy with a multi-pronged approach which includes educating people about the consequences of piracy, taking action against Internet thieves, working with law enforcement authorities around the world to root out pirate operations and working to ensure movies are available legally using advances technology.

Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local political representatives. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance.

They will tell you this themselves. I have ALWAY amintained that cartel product has corrupted the values of society and the minds of our youth. Now, the cartel agrees with me that it is a mind altering product (i.e. a drug). I ask again, “Why are these cartel products given copyright protections when they are detrimental rather than beneficial to society?” I finally agree with something that the cartels have said.
Yes, even cartels have rights. They have the right to free speech. However just because they have the right to spew garbage, it does not mean that that garbage should be protected by the same law that was to be used for works beneficial to society. Wether the cartel knows it or not, they just placed themselves in the same catagory as common drug pushers. They just admitted that their product was a drug and that it is being peddled by drug pushers. the strong armed tactics used by many drug peddlers are also being used by the media cartel. Both bribe judges and politicians, sell a mind altering protect, go after innocent people and ruin their lives, ruthlessly destroy the competition, break into private property, and worst of all both are destroying what was once the greatest single nation in the entire world.
Like I have said many times, I do not use cartel product simply because I reconize it for what it really is – poison. I did however break a boycott in order to buy a Soney DRM infected CD. I intend to use that CD as a weapon against Sony itself. I also intend to reverse engineer the code contained within the CD and will publish any findings anonymously. Screw the DCMA. I am cliaming rights to do this under the GPL, since code from L.A.M.E. project may very well have been used. I also claim the right to do this simply because I have the right to know what someone is doing with my private property (my computer). I don’t know, but since I have a receipt, I just might join a class action suit, or file a claim on my own in small claims court. I wonder if the cartel is familiar with some little thing (like customers) coming back to bite them in the ass?

By the same reasoning, most people involved in the film/music industry use drugs, so surely there must be some way to protect the public from these evildoers?, after all, they must be pirates too, they use drugs!

I went to the record store to specifically buy a DRM Sony infected CD (to be used as a weapon against Sony, of course). I saw an amazing number of movies and music CD’s. It is what I didn’t see that made me feel good. I didn’t see any customers
I hope that is the same thing that is happening in just about every (**AA sanctioned) video and music store. I hope the cartels feel good about how they are helping the industry now.

Exactly what I was thinking.
The Colombian drug gangs would probably have to find another line (pun intended) of work if the Hollywood folk went clean and sober.

A new report says that teens that watch movies with actors smoking are 3 times more likely to become smokers. I’ll bet that bug tobacco has been paying Holywood for many years to have actors smoke. Especially since it’s illegal for tobacoo companies have no other legal form of video advertisements. They get actors to pitch the carcinogen product that would never agree to a “standard” ad campaign endorsement. This has always been better than any TV ad during CSI. Big name actors condoning smoking.
It seems that the MPAA are by far the biggest drug pushers in the US.
I won’t even mention drug use in movies…

The likes of Sony pushing malware shows who respects the laws designed by and for their benefits. As if the rootkit episode wasn’t enough, the fix was even worse. Each one designed to insert their brand of legality into what is supposed to be a product to be bought by all. This sue’em all lawsuit business against their customers is also a sign of the mentality behind the cartels. Mugging somehow seems to be the slightest of the problems that has infested the cartels.
Likening them to pushers may well be understatement and a kindness compared to what they really are, the true mafia gone legit. Past investigations have usually turned up traces and shadowy tracks linked to underworld figures. Funny it is that most of the investigations have been turned from compeletion or wandered into different area than the initial investigations sought.
The mentality of the cartels smack of criminal intent. The more involvement the cartels get into media, the more the results stink. Pushers were banned from school areas by laws forbidding them from being in the area. Breaking those laws had severe penalties if they were caught. It has reached the point that the cartels need the same sort of laws against them. They too push a product and that product reeks.

You can just tell they are so very desperate to make the association between 9/11 and filesharing in the public’s mind.
These are the types of rabid, sick people that would carry out an attack themselves if they could blame it on their enemies. (Say that sounds like a familiar M.O.)
Tomorrows news: 9/11 was a direct result of file sharing.
Too bad Glickman didn’t make it down to ground-zero so he could stand on the pile of corpses for a good photo-op.
(As if we couldn’t see this terror-oportunism coming ever since day one.)

Wouldn’t suprise me if the MPAA/RIAA planted the drug evidence as a PR stunt to associate cd copying with narcotics.

It is a mistake to associate music lovers with drug dealers. It may boomerang on the music industry.
I personally associate music with drugs. This is because too frequently where music is served to yougsters, drugs and alcohol are also served.
Clearly the music-drug relation is not a creation of the yougsters, but a creation of the music/drug/alcohol business. Anything for money. Music and drugs are pushed to youngters by businesses.
Acusing youngsters who share music or copy cds for personal or backup purposes of being drug pushers is really a wild police state acusation. It is defamation of youth.

Are you trying to tell me that would be your justification why impressionable young kids should not watch cartoons made in the thirties and forties just because bugs bunny and daffy duck and screwy squirrel drank martinis and smoked cigars and those cartoons are violent ?
