Google sales page goes online
p2p news / p2pnet: Google Base, Google’s answer to eBay, flashed a brief appearance around this time last month
Now it’s here for real and with company ceo Eric Schmidt’s comments in June that a Google payment service is also in the works, there are interesting times ahead for eBay which, if at least one forecast is correct, is on its last legs anyway.
eBay is now infamous for the many and various restrictions on its auctions, and for its arrant disregard for the wants of the people who made it so wealthy.
Google Base isn’t an auction, but still, it’ll be interesting to see how it fares, especially with complaints.
It allows users to describe any items with attributes and, based on the "relevance" of items, they "may also be included in the main Google search index and other Google products like Froogle and Google Local," says the company, giving a taste of the possibities, ie:
Non-profit organizations – volunteer, non-profit, jobs in charity
Chicken Tikka Masala – recipes, reviews, cuisine
Cars for Sale – Mercedes Benz, Porsche, Prius
Course descriptions – differential equations – linear algebra – biochemistry
