France is especially interesting on this topic. In 2001, The 1st edition of "Star Academy" (an Idol-alike show) almost had Jean-Pascal as a winner, a loosy lifeguard who sang even worse than your little sister. Altough Jean-Pascal did not win the game, his album sold 600.000 copies... In spring 2005, the 3rd edition of "French Idol" was won by Myriam, a good singer but that didn't want to sing what BMG wanted her to sing. They simply gave the price to the one who lost the final (Pierrick) and dropped Myriam. So even if your "Jens" wins, - He could anyway sell loads of albums. - SonyBMG could make someone else win even if he wins. Another question : - Never tought that this "RaddaJens" could be a secret tactic by SonyBMG to mediatize his favorite contestant (someone with whom they could sell loads of CDs and drop quite soon because of his lack of talent, like it happenned to our national Jean-Pascal) ?
