Hollywood -v- p2p file swap firms
The EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) is representing Morpheus owner StreamCast Networks as 28 movie studios and recording companies try to hammer StreamCast, Grokster Ltd and Kazaa owner Sharman Networks into the ground to, “set a precedent to use against other technology companies (P2P and otherwise)”.
The lawsuit, “raises a question of critical importance at the border between copyright and innovation: when should the distributor of a multi-purpose tool be held liable for the infringements that may be committed by end-users of the tool?” – says the EFF.
It does indeed, which is why documents and information saved in electronic formats are of equally critical importance.
The EFF is famous for making thse kinds of data available, but it’s outdone itself this time with an amazing website offering a wealth of .pdf documents, as well as downloadable (and therefore share-able) audio files of the oral argument [WMA 10.4MB and mp3 16.4MB].
Included are friends of court briefs for both sides, as well as the RIAA and MPAA briefs, and briefs from Morpheus and Grokster.
