And there are a lot more skills anyone who’s planning on a little urban combat should know. After all, as the FSW site puts it, quoting WWII US general George Patton, “The object of war is not to die for your country, but to make some other bastard die for his.”

“The U.S. Army is the most powerful ground force in the entire world,” says FSW. “The backbone of a ground invasion is the U.S. Army Infantry, and in the midst of combat, their skills, courage, and teamwork are put to the test. Full Spectrum Warrior is based on a game commissioned by the U.S. Army to train light Infantry troops in urban combat situations. Soldiers are placed in a tense, hostile, and claustrophobic environment where they must complete a variety of military objectives.
“Players act as the Squad Leader, providing direction to Alpha and Bravo fire teams. The successful Squad Leader effectively uses cover in the environment and moves his fire teams in a coordinated fashion so they can protect themselves from possible attacks that could come from any direction. Full Spectrum Warrior puts you in the dirt with your men, where danger lurks around every corner.
The “game” isn’t sponsored or endorsed by the United States Army, the site hastens to point out. But, “Full Spectrum Warrior was developed separately by the US Army funded Institute for Creative Technologies at the University of Southern California,” says the BBC. “The game was created specifically for Army training purposes, but is now available commercially.”
Get them while they’re young. Make them think war is cool. Then send ‘em to Iraq. Or Afghan. Or ……

War in real life isn’t pretty. It is sanitized in games and in the news. Real life pictures during supper time news isn’t condusive to an appetite.
Maybe games are getting to much like real life in the enviroment resemblance. But the clean view presented in games is a far cry from the real deal. No one should have to tote the images in their mind of real war. It is ugly, nasty, brutal, and it could be you on the end of the dying. That last part is never part of the players conception, as reset always takes care of the game. There are no resets in real life. Death is permanent and wounds and scars don’t magically go away. Nor do emotional and mental scars.
The young is what the military wants. While you still have the bullet proof mentality and the idea it happens to the other guy. While the mind can be trained to accept commands that any one with a thought for themselves can realize that charging into a mass of folks shooting back isn’t healthy and maybe you should reconsider how much you enjoy life.
Remember the other guy is you to someone else and there are a lot of someone elses in the world. That cuts down on the “you’re bulletproof” theme.
I hope that just one young lad reads this and remembers it. I’m a veteran and if there is one thing I would change in all the world, it is the idea that because you are young doesn’t grant you immunity to death and injury. That armies are there for one purpose, that is to break things and kill people. There is no name tag on a bullet, it accepts readily whoever it finds, bystander or participant without reservation. That someone could be you!

Those elements have existed in games for a long time.
If you want True Combat, you should check out Enemy Territory TC:E Mod for linux, it’s Free!, and it’s built on the wolfenstein rendering engine, which is excellent graphics. That is extremely war-like. Hell it can scare the bejesus out of you when someone creeps up on you and knifes you in the back, heh
With the TCE mod you actually have to aim, preferbly a head shot

Those sick american oil nazi’s like to kick in to front door and immediatly kill ANYTHING and ANYBODY that’s moving. Man, woman, child, it doesn’t matter to the little pussy American oil soldiers. They go through entire residential neighborhoods and do this with EVERY house. So very brave of the little cowards.
If you’re one of the many thousands of civilians caught in this situation, YOU’RE DEAD, without exception.
They did it in Falluja. They do it in Afganistan.

If these little American pussy soldiers had ANY courage, they would have never shipped over to Iraq in the first place. But it’s always easier for a coward to follow orders and go ahead and kill hundreds than to refuse and take personal consequence such as a court martial, even when the coward knows how wrong the orders are.
Have fun, America, these little cowards are going to come home eventually, and when they do, they’ll be on YOUR streets, some of them even carrying guns and a badge. They will be running YOUR prisons, taking their anger out on YOUR citizens.

just join the US army and anyone can legally become a real-life mass murderer AND get paid for it. Maybe if all the deranged serial killers would just join the military, and do their killing overseas, thereby keeping the American streets safe by their absence.
