Girls versus Games

p2p news / p2pnet: “When Jake Walker upsets his girlfriend, Jaci Boydston, he might buy her flowers. When Jaci feels she owes an apology to Jake, she agrees to play a round of the Nintendo fighting game ‘Super Smash Brothers’.”

So says an MTV story, going on, “Jaci and Jake, who both attend Kansas State University, are a modern couple dealing with a modern issue. One of them is a gamer; the other is not. Theirs is not an unusual plight. For decades gamers and non-gamers in love have struggled to find harmony.”

But it’s no laughing matter.

Senior Erin Moore says her boyfriend, Jari, “binges on Xbox right across the hall from her apartment, where his gaming friends live,” says the story, which has her saying, “He doesn’t come home until 4 in the morning because he’s been playing Xbox all night”.

Once, she got so angry she, “went over and stole the game controllers and hid them around the house, and I hid them separately so if they found one they still couldn’t play,” says MTV.

Hence Kansas State’s Girlfriends Against Video Games which started as a joke but which has become, “a sounding board for dozens of local students suffering gaming-induced relationship heartache”.

Megan has been, “fretting about Clinton’s obsession all year,” says MTV, quoting her as saying, “I think the biggest issue I have is how much money he spends on it. He has a campus job, and campus jobs don’t pay very much at all. Then he gets his paycheck and spends it all on video games.”

Clinton has, however, found a financial solution.

“Recently I started giving plasma to help pay for video games,” he says in the story, which adds, “That nets him $55 a week.”

But, ” I think most of those Girlfriends need to stop worrying so much about it,” says n2sims on gamergirlsunite.com.

“At least they aren’t addicted to Internet porn.

“I am the one who got my husband into gaming. When the Nintendo 64 came out he wouldn’t get one. He finally did after he went to look at Craftsman tools at sears and I went to check out the 64 and he couldn’t get me to stop playing. He plays more than me now. I don’t mind. I’d rather him have an affair with the xbox than another woman. At least I know where he is when he is playing!”

Love your comment. Personally the wife and I don’t have too many relationship troubles caused by games. I’m one of those rare lucky guys who has a woman that loves playing games too. The only problem is that she prefers games we can play together (naturally) and there aren’t too many of those. Sure there is MMORPG’s, and we played World of Warcraft together for quite a while until I started having medical problems that made it hard to sit in front of the PC for too long. But I can only maintain interest in one game for only so long you know? She’s been pushing me for a while now to play WoW again, but I just keep telling her to wait for the D&D game (which will likely be delayed at least a few times hehe). My preference is for first person shooters. Hmm, I guess we still have problems caused by video games after all… sigh.

Serious sam first and second encounter (often mistakenly called 2, but it’s really just 1.5) and serious sam 2 all feature coop play and are first person shooters that don’t take themselves seriously.

I believe the original unreal featured coop as well.
