Serious sam first and second encounter (often mistakenly called 2, but it's really just 1.5) and serious sam 2 all feature coop play and are first person shooters that don't take themselves seriously.

I believe the original unreal featured coop as well.

Love your comment. Personally the wife and I don't have too many relationship troubles caused by games. I'm one of those rare lucky guys who has a woman that loves playing games too. The only problem is that she prefers games we can play together (naturally) and there aren't too many of those. Sure there is MMORPG's, and we played World of Warcraft together for quite a while until I started having medical problems that made it hard to sit in front of the PC for too long. But I can only maintain interest in one game for only so long you know? She's been pushing me for a while now to play WoW again, but I just keep telling her to wait for the D&D game (which will likely be delayed at least a few times hehe). My preference is for first person shooters. Hmm, I guess we still have problems caused by video games after all... sigh.
