Sony DRM spyware author
p2p news / p2pnet: As the world now knows, Britain’s First 4 Internet Ltd plagiarised code from L.A.M.E. and Jon Lech Johansen for use in DRM spyware it then sold it to Sony BMG, which is now taking a huge hammering for secretly planting it on its CDs.
“Yesterday, I posted some old mailing list and newsgroup messages from First4Internet programmers where they were seeking advice on breaking peoples’ computers,” says Cory Doctorow on Boing Boing, going on, “Now, Baz and Alexander have found this old newsgroup post from a First4Internet programmer offering cash if someone will do his homework for him.”
Boing Boing links to a Google Groups item in Germany which goes like this:

Betreff: How do I protect WMA files with DRM v1 (in simple C/C++)Antwort an Autor | Weiterleiten | Drucken | Thread anzeigen | Original anzeigen | Missbrauch melden
I am currently writing an MP3 player with lots of bells and whistles including a wave editor, fades, reverbs etc. What I now need is to be able to protect the files it creates. I have already written the routine to convert the MP3 into a WMA file.
Does someone have some simple C++ code which can write Microsofts DRM v1 properties that the user whishes to set (i.e. 3plays 4 copies etc) over the unprotected file to make it protected. There may be some cash on offer here if its easy to use! All I need is a procedure that performs this - with the following parameters
ProtectMyFile(char *Filename, int plays, int
hard_drive_copies, int cd_copies)Also - I would require any libs that is required.
I know it sounds like I am just after some free code due to my laziness but I really dont have the time and I am serious about the cash - I really need this functionality!
Any help would be grately appreciated!
-Lee

Well who would be surprised by this? Like all bigbiz they’ve decided to have something they regard as critical to the survivial of their biz taken care of by the lowest cost bidder. Then i’m sure they were honestly surprised when the shit hit the fan, and had no idea what was going on.
I’m convinced that whole quote about noone knowing what rootkits are so why are they worried, was purely because i4internet had just finishing spinning him a load of purest high quality bullshit about what they were doing and why.
I’ll give bigbiz a hint here. If it’s critical to the survival of your business for any reason, DONT go with the lowest priced tender!!!
Then again, what am i saying. Go for it, hell i’ll tender for everything you’ll ever want or need. You’ll never ever get it and you’ll go bankrupt if i get my way, but i’ll be the cheapest tenderer you’ve ever seen!!! You’ll save so much money!!!
