Firefox 1.5: privacy protected
p2p news / p2pnet: The last time we wrote about Firefox it was to say the beta for 1.5 was online.
Now the full rev is here, built on the new Gecko 1.8 rendering engine —– and it comes with the ‘clear private data’ with a single key safeguard, as well as a new auto-update function which obviates the need to download a new installer for every change.
Moreover, “Mac users who want an alternative browser will find that Firefox has improved migration facilities for both Mac IE and Safari,” promises PC Pro.
And, “Many security holes have been fixed and the various patches issued over the past few months have been incorporated”.
We’ve been Opera fans for many moons and have been using it and Firefox in tandem.
But now ………..
Download Firefox 1.5 here.

i tried it, then reinstalled to 1.07 because most of my extensions didn’t work because they haven’t been updated for 1.5.
i’ll wait a couple of weeks before i try it again.
thanks anyway.

It could be that a whole big bunch of less-than-savvy folks downloaded 1.5 and the errors and snafus are all their own fault, but…
If the forums and traffic at Mozilla are any indication, there are issues with installing 1.5 properly and getting everything to work all nice and dandy.
Waiting a coupla weeks (also so that people will have time to put up updates for extensions and themes) for the diddling to be worked out is probbly an awful smart thing.

Raw Console: Links
GUI (KDE): Konqueror
The firefox UI on linux is really horrible, i much prefer using konqueror. If only they used QT instead of GTK :/
Of course if im on windows (which only happens at work these days
) then firefox is the obvious choice

Check again, bub. You shouldn’t confuse the Mozdev crowd with Microsux. I have updated all my pertinent extensions.

I for one am delighted with the new Ff. I’m am certainly not computer savvy, but I couldn’t be more contented with the increased security. I never tried the NoScript before, but now I see the necessity for it. I’ve been up two nights in a row “diddling” with the extensions. No problems yet, and I really loaded them up.
For someone who’s only been on the net for a year, I’ve certainly had quite an education. I wouldn’t give up Firefox for anything. Now, if I could just get Linux……..
