Old movies for mobile users
p2p news / p2pnet: Sprint Nextel is expected to announce today that it’ll be offering old – very old – movies to mobile phone users for $7 a month.
From MSpot, the service will have “unlimited shows and movies” with an initial line-up including such as One-Eyed Jacks, Angel and the Badman and Night of the Living Dead with the most recent flic being Short Circuit from 1986, says Reuters.
“This is what we could get rights to quickly,” its Dale Knoop, Sprint’s general manager for multimedia services saying.
“He said the company and MSpot are in negotiations for more current content, but declined to say which studios are involved.”
Sprint found, “many people have a shorter attention span when it comes to mobile phone video, a Sprint spokeswoman said,” thus, “the service lets viewers watch movies in segments, similar to a DVD,” the story adds.

because watching a movie on a tiny phone screen is wasteful, draining the battery.
and it’s also stupid.

Duh, try watching stuff on your 27″ TV sitting 100′ feet away. Cell phone screens for movies? Maybe “My Dinner With Andre” would hold up, but an action flick? Not for me.
