RIAA, MPAA Xmas Grinches

p2p news / p2pnet: Expect to see Hollywood and Organized Music pseudo-cops hanging around street corners and flea-markets until Christmas.

Their MPAA and RIAA units are going to make sure the season of goodwill puts money into their owners’ pockets, and no one else’s.

MPAA/RIAA OFFER TIPS TO HELP HOLIDAY SHOPPERS STEER CLEAR OF COUNTERFEIT CDs, DVDs, they say.

Associations Announce Two-Month Blitz to Stop Movie, Music Grinches from Stealing Copyrights, they say.

What could be more Grinch-like than the bitter and twisted movie and record label industries who are suing their own customers?

We wonder what other parts of a spoof we posted in which we posited a merger between the RIAA and MPAA resulting in the World Recording and Motion Picture Industry Association are about to become reality?

The MPAA and RIAA say they started a nationwide two-month "Holiday Blitz" in November. No! Really! That’s what they’re calling it!

Targetted "during the holiday shopping season" are shops, flea markets and street sellers with the twin goals of "protecting holiday shoppers from purchasing illegal copies of CDs and DVDs" and "protecting music labels and movie studios from losing crucial holiday sales," say the two ‘trade’ organizations.

The program "utilizes enforcement actions by local authorities and voluntary surrenders by merchants of illegal goods as well as civil litigation and cease-and-desist letters targeted at retailers engaged in the sale of illicit product," they say.

Remarks MPAA boss Dan ‘Jedi’ Glickman wittily, "With so many people buying movies and music for their friends and loved ones, we want to ensure that buyers are getting the real Chicken Little and not some pirated turkey."

Jeez.

The puff release includes a bunch of useless, self-serving ‘tips’ including: "Remember the Adage ‘You Get What You Pay For’."

So remember that when you’re thinking about what not to buy for Christmas.

The greedy bastards can expect nothing from my family this holiday season. We all agreed last month that there would be no DVDs or CDs this year. Those days are officially over. I hope many others do the same and send them a message this year.

“…we want to ensure that buyers are getting the real Chicken Little and not some pirated turkey.”

    **************************

how is that possible? the film only been in cinemas less than two months and the DVD release has not been set, according to amazondotcom.

    and:

‘You Get What You Pay For’ is okay by me. if i pay for a pirated copy, that’s what i expect to get.

so how can jedi ensure that people can buy the real chicken little before cristmas when only piracted copies are available?

    idiot.

Expect a cease-and-desist letter from the CCAA lawyers (Cartoon Characters Association of America) shortly.

We need to do our own education during the season. Counterfeit CDs may have a minor impact on the bottom line of some already rich media intermediaries, but so-called “copy control” CDs have had very dammaging effects on the personal communications equipment (including computers) of average citizens.

People might want to join up with the FreeCulture.org movement that seems to be doing some education. http://freeculture.org/riaafree/

For instance, check out the flyer from New York University

Is it the Ted Geisel or the Chuck Jones version of the Grinch?

Instead of purchasing (or renting or licensing or pathetically begging to be allowed to use) someone else’s intellectual property as gifts this holiday season, why not instead purchase items the recipient can use to make their own intellectual property, such as a musical instrument, a beginning oil paint set, a calligraphy set, a fountain pen and cotton bond paper for a budding author, etc.

Then walk into the stores where you would normally purchase CDs, software, DVDs, etc, find a manager (who is an adult over 30 who would seem to have somewhat of an investment in a career with the enterprise) and inform them how much you would have usually spent on such this in their store and exactly why you are not doing that this year. Inform them you’ll evaluate the situation at the outset of the holiday shopping season next year an if there is little or no improvement or change your gift purchasing strategy will also not change.

After that, encourage other people you know to adopt the same approach. If it can work for municipal buses and lunch counters, it can work for items that aren’t life essentials.

    Yes : )

The above quote sums everything up nicely. Oh how so true it is. I’ve moved on to INTERNATIONAL and INDEPENDENT musicians and movies — and let me tell you something, it is SO MUCH BETTER!!!

Remember boys and girls, you can do better without the RIAA/MPAA! Nobody likes a “pusher”!

Should that not read “……… getting the real Chicken Shit and not some precious turkey.” ?!!!

Bootlegs have never fucked up my PC nor attempted to. I bought a bootleg CD that skipped. Returned it to the guy on the street corner, he apologized, said the quality of some of the batch was bad. He gave me a new CD & let me pick a 2nd for free! I bought a defective DVD fomr Best Buy & they told me to call the manufacturer & wanted to give me a 1-800 number to call. When I complained to the manager, after a 1/2 hour of nonsense, they finally gave me another copy.

So, the guy selling bootlegs is more courteous & a better businessman! THAT is the problem. To any of you stupid fucks from the recording or movie industry (that includes anyone involved with the whole scam), may your business go the way of the dinosaur. Also, you’re poisoning the minds of the populace with your sorry products. Fuck you.

    Merry Christmas, btw!

Dan Glickman IS the Chicken Shit.

Btw, that movie sucks balls anyway.

  12. Reader's Write Says:

I agree that people sharing files over the Net should be legal. After all they are only sharing not selling. But come on… bootleg copies are by definition, pirated goods. People are making money off them, and that is theft.

  13. Reader's Write Says:

unfortunately, they don’t like to make a distinction between bootleg piravy and filesharing. they refuse to change their business and distribution models, as well as the ways they pay (or don’t pay!) royalties to performers and technicians. so they lump everyone together so they can pressure congress and foreign countries to enact the laws they tell them to enact.

  14. Reader's Write Says:

i tried printing that protest flyer, but it wouldn’t come out clear enough to read. where can i find a good copy to print?

  15. Reader's Write Says:

No seriously, we should not put up with this CABAL RACKET anymore. These guys are MYTH-PUSHERS! They push lies and deception.

I agree with the above poster, go where you’re respected and treated well. Life is too short to associate with bastards and bitches (that’s the Cabal).

    Happy Holiday Season!!!

    Hi Guys,

Doing a bit of research. I’m at a loss as to the agenda of p2p? Is it to get stuff for free? Is it because the content producers are charging to much? Whats the real theme behind this all? Or is it simply a “beat the man” phenomena or protest of some sort?

Is there somewhere on this site that I can find a faq that will help me understand the p2p song\video download culture?

    Thanks,

    music lover
