Hi Guys,

Doing a bit of research. I’m at a loss as to the agenda of p2p? Is it to get stuff for free? Is it because the content producers are charging to much? Whats the real theme behind this all? Or is it simply a “beat the man” phenomena or protest of some sort?

Is there somewhere on this site that I can find a faq that will help me understand the p2p song\video download culture?

unfortunately, they don’t like to make a distinction between bootleg piravy and filesharing. they refuse to change their business and distribution models, as well as the ways they pay (or don’t pay!) royalties to performers and technicians. so they lump everyone together so they can pressure congress and foreign countries to enact the laws they tell them to enact.

I agree that people sharing files over the Net should be legal. After all they are only sharing not selling. But come on… bootleg copies are by definition, pirated goods. People are making money off them, and that is theft.

Bootlegs have never fucked up my PC nor attempted to. I bought a bootleg CD that skipped. Returned it to the guy on the street corner, he apologized, said the quality of some of the batch was bad. He gave me a new CD & let me pick a 2nd for free! I bought a defective DVD fomr Best Buy & they told me to call the manufacturer & wanted to give me a 1-800 number to call. When I complained to the manager, after a 1/2 hour of nonsense, they finally gave me another copy.

So, the guy selling bootlegs is more courteous & a better businessman! THAT is the problem. To any of you stupid fucks from the recording or movie industry (that includes anyone involved with the whole scam), may your business go the way of the dinosaur. Also, you’re poisoning the minds of the populace with your sorry products. Fuck you.

Instead of purchasing (or renting or licensing or pathetically begging to be allowed to use) someone else’s intellectual property as gifts this holiday season, why not instead purchase items the recipient can use to make their own intellectual property, such as a musical instrument, a beginning oil paint set, a calligraphy set, a fountain pen and cotton bond paper for a budding author, etc.

Then walk into the stores where you would normally purchase CDs, software, DVDs, etc, find a manager (who is an adult over 30 who would seem to have somewhat of an investment in a career with the enterprise) and inform them how much you would have usually spent on such this in their store and exactly why you are not doing that this year. Inform them you’ll evaluate the situation at the outset of the holiday shopping season next year an if there is little or no improvement or change your gift purchasing strategy will also not change.

After that, encourage other people you know to adopt the same approach. If it can work for municipal buses and lunch counters, it can work for items that aren’t life essentials.

We need to do our own education during the season. Counterfeit CDs may have a minor impact on the bottom line of some already rich media intermediaries, but so-called “copy control” CDs have had very dammaging effects on the personal communications equipment (including computers) of average citizens.

how is that possible? the film only been in cinemas less than two months and the DVD release has not been set, according to amazondotcom.

and:

‘You Get What You Pay For’ is okay by me. if i pay for a pirated copy, that’s what i expect to get.
