Sweden says no to digital radio
p2p news / p2pnet: The Swedish government has rejected further development of digital radio, says Dagens Nyheter, quoted in The Local.
“Culture minister Leif Pagrotsky said that the government does not want Swedes to have to throw out the 25-30 million radio sets in the country which would not work on a digital audio broadcast (DAB) network,” it says, going on:
“Nor is the government prepared to bear the costs of running two networks in parallel.”
DAB trials began ten years ago, but only 7,000 digital radio sets have been sold during that time, says the story.

If people need it, industry will provide, as long as the governement does not stand in its way, I don’t think they need to push it on people.

The only ppl who want it “pushed” are the ones who stand to profit by selling the new radios. There’s no compelling killer app for digital radio so there’s no reason to take it up. Come up with the killer app and it’ll sell itself.
