Hollywood goes after Asia
p2p news / p2pnet: Hollywood isn’t merely singling Communist China out for Special Attention.
During the holiday season, its Keystone Kops are also going after Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand, with Australia and New Zealand thrown in for good measure.
With Dan ‘Jedi’ Glickman in charge, the MPAA has commenced Big Broom, an, “aggressive anti-piracy enforcement operations scheduled to run through January 2006 in 14 countries and territories across the Asia-Pacific region,” says the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America).
“Glickman made the announcement during his keynote speech at the annual CineAsia motion picture industry convention in Beijing,” it says in a statement.
The MPAA has already launched Operation Grinch in the US and both it and Big Broom will, as usual, make free use of government and enforcement personnel, services and resources paid for by taxpayers in the target countries.
The sheer, bald-faced arrogance of Hollywood as it passes itself off as a virtual nation state is absolutely astounding, as is the fact it’s continually allowed to get away with it.
However, when you’re pulling down billions of dollars annually while at the same time pleading poverty, it isn’t really surprising.
Tired of being treated like a criminal? They depend on you, not the other way around. Don’t buy their ‘product’. Do bug your local political representatives. Use emails, snail-mail, phone calls, faxes, IM, stop them in the street, blog. And if you’re into organizing, organize petitions, organize demonstrations and then turn up on your local political rep’s doorstep, making sure you’ve contacted your local tv/radio station/newspaper in advance.
