Opera browser to go public

Norway’s Opera web brower is going public, says ceo Jon S. von Tetzchner.

Now ranked #3 behind IE and Netscape, it’s a truly great piece of software - fast, and easy to configure/tweak. And unlike IE and Netscape, it’s not based on NCSA Mosaic code or interface methodology.

AND - it has a near-cult following, as Mark Schenk, a devoted Opera user, will tell you. His web site has an overview of features he likes, links to third party applications, a release history and links to other Opera fans.

Timothy Luoma is another Opera enthusiast and his 30 Days to Becoming an Opera Lover series kicks off, "Do you like the idea of having an MDI user interface and being able to browse in multiple windows? Care for a full keyboard interface for your browsing? Want to start up with multiple windows? Is your browser slow?"

Back in Oslo, "The company’s board has decided to apply for public listing on the Oslo Stock Exchange (OSE) in March 2004," says a statement here, adding, "Opera Software’s joint lead managers for its initial public offering (IPO) are Enskilda Securities and ABG Sundal Collier."
