White Wolf game co hacked
p2p news / p2pnet: White Wolf Publishing, creator of World of Darkness and Vampire: The Requiem, among other video games, is the victim of a hack attack.
“Like many other well-known companies of the last few years, White Wolf was the target of an attack by international hackers on Sunday December 11th,” it says on its site, continuing, “These hackers are attempting to extort money from us with the threat of posting user data to the internet. We have no intention of paying this money, and are in contact with the FBI in an attempt to bring these criminals to justice.”
White Wolf says it’s making the news public so users can take precautions to protect themselves and is recommending that anyone who’s used White Wolf user passwords for other online purpose should, “change them immediately”.
“These hackers were able to exploit a flaw in our software and access user data,” states White Wolf.
Data include usernames, email addresses and encrypted passwords and although the hackers weren’t able to access credit card information (”nor have they claimed they did”), encrypted passwords they were able to access could be “decrypted given enough time,” it adds.
