North Country on p2p networks

p2p news / p2pnet: We entered ‘North Country’ into the p2pnet Orb torrent site tracker (top left) at 6:24 am Pacific and got three hits.

“Pirated copies of movies sent to Oscar voters are already appearing online, a US internet analyst has reported,” says the BBC.

Apparently, North Country is one such and when it talks about “internet analyst,” the Beeb is referring to online scalp-hunter BayTSP which has, “begun monitoring for ’screeners’ - advance copies of films sent to individuals who vote on Academy Award nominations.”

We hope it’s keeping a careful eye on Hollywood insiders who’ve been responsible for major leaks, rather than kids with camcorders, the popular targets for diatribes from MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) boss Dan ‘Jedi’ Glickman.

“It [BayTSP] said digital watermarking would be used to track files and assess damages in the event of a prosecution,” the Beeb states, going on:

“Among the titles that are reportedly being distributed illegally is North Country starring Charlize Theron.”

Glickman did much widely reported (by the lamescream media) frothing and blowing when Revenge of the Sith, the latest Star Wars movie, turned up on the p2p networks. But a Hollywood insider has been charged with leaking it.

In other examples:

  • Of 285 movies sampled on the p2p networks, 77% were leaked by industry ‘insiders’, said an AT&T Labs report
  • Actor and studio owner Mel Gibson sued a Hollywood post-production house for the online appearance of his Passion movie
  • Russell Sprague got 130 movies from Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences member Carmine Caridi, who was ordered to pay Warner Bros a paltry $300,000 for providing Sprague, who died in an LA jail cell, with the copies.

Stay tuned.

One Response to “North Country on p2p networks”

  1. Reader's Write Says:

AT&T’s report includes minimum-wage-earning movie theater projectionists among “industry insiders”. Look at VCDQuality.com. Most of leaked films come out after the premiere, so it’s sort of misleanding for AT&T to say “industry insiders” knowing people will believe the leaks are coming from people “in the industry.”
