Microsoft isn’t new Opera owner

p2p news / p2pnet: "In a recent conversation with one of our insiders at Microsoft, the source revealed that Microsoft Corp., the world’s largest software maker, has acquired Opera Software, makers of the Opera browser," stated CoolTechZone unequivocally on December 23.

"At the moment, the deal is almost through with Microsoft and Opera planning on locations for the browser’s research and development centers throughout the world," it goes on. "One of such locations includes India; other locations at this time are unknown."

Then in an update footnote, " Opera recently confirmed that Microsoft has not approached the browser maker and there is no active acquistion deal between the two companies currently."

Now, " Fresh rumors are now linking Opera to Microsoft saying that Redmond has already purchased the Oslo-based company and an announcement is imminent," says Earthtimes.

However, the story has Opera has Opera spokesman Eskil Sivertsen saying it ain’t so, and, "I don’t know why these rumors are happening. My guess, frankly, is as good as yours."

  1. Reader's Write Says:

This is all because of an article in PC magazine that suggested it
would be a good idea if MS bought Opera… never happen. MS has
too much of their OS software tied into IE, not only that but imagine
the antitrust suites that would come down on them again if they
bought out their only commercial browser competition.

Opera is starting to suck. My browser crashes at least 15 times a day on me..

  3. Reader's Write Says:

huh? I routinely run my pc 24/7 for at least 3 weeks of each month, and use opera almost exclusively. I haven’t had it crash more than once per month at most. I’d suggest you try the opera forums and see if they can help, cause that’s unusual in my experiences with opera from version 5.0 to 8.51.
