Sony still selling spyware CDs
p2p news / p2pnet: In spite of Sony BMG’s promise to have music poisoned with its First 4 Internet spyware (the CDs) and dangerous SunnComm MediaMax DRM (the CDs) taken off store shelves, the discs are still blatantly for sale.
"I just got back from the Sony Style store in the Westchester mall, (White Plains, NY) and I saw that the had many CDs in the shelves that had the XCP rootkits," says The Consumerlist. "I asked the manager about this and they said they were, and I quote, ’still allowed to sell them’.
"From Sony’s website (http://cp.sonybmg.com/xcp/) ‘2. SONY BMG is working with its retail partners to withdraw compact discs with XCP software from distribution and retail chains. It has asked retailers to cease sale of those discs and to return them to SONY BMG. This withdrawal program has been and is being widely communicated.’
"I guess it asked 3rd party retailers to return the CDs to Sony so they can sell them in their own stores?
"Bah humbug, Sony!"
But really, what else can you expect from a corporation that’s part of a conspiracy to sue mothers and their children into buying ‘product’ that’s named in a New York overcharging investigation?
The Consumerlist didn’t leave it there, however.
"I went back today (12/23), I confirmed that there were at least 3 XCP CDs on the shelves still," it continues. "I didn’t bug the staff though- I was Cmas shopping with my family and didn’t want to make a scene," says the post. I emailed Sony asking if the Sony Style stores are exempt from the recall.
"Their reply:
‘" ‘ Thank you for contacting Sony BMG Online. Sony BMG has asked ALL retailers to return these CDs, this includes the SonyStyle division stores. No retailer was exempt from the XCP recall request. Thank you for the opportunity to be of assistance. The Sony BMG Online Support Team, C2X John’.
"I don’t work too far from the flagship store in Manhattan. Maybe I’ll drop by there soon to see if they still have them…"
Stay tuned…

Why should Sony stop selling anything that is illegal?
I told Sony to stop making a CD with a song owned by my family back in 1998. Sony’s reply letter of February 12, 1998 to me said:
“As per your request we procceded to place in suspense the song “Desde que te marchaste” by Guillermo venegas Lloveras.”
Back then we thought Sony was making only one unlawful CD with our songs, without a license. Now we know the were making 17 records.
To this date, almost 8 years later, Sony has not stopped the sale any of the unlawful records. Even after we filed a lawsuit against Sony in 2001, Sony has not stopped, even though they have admitted they were making the records and the records ares till sold all over the Internet and record stores.

Here are some questions:
Does anyone really expect Sony to keep their words?
Is it collective delusion to expect that Sony will keep its word?
Is the American public more deserving from Sony than my family here in Puerto Rico, where we have no say on the crappy American copyright (and other) laws and the crappy Federal Courts that practically govern us by decree?
Any opinions?

sorry man, the government apparently thinks sony can do more with your song then you can. it’s sad it is able to happen.
start a website, making thousands of sony songs availble, including the ones you claim ownership too, see what happens.

Bigbiz promises are just like political promises. They’re worth nothing. They’re just meant to sound reassuring, without actually committing anyone to actually having to do something.

Rafael, I’m with you on this. The bas####s at sony have screwed your family big time, and are still doing so, if anyone believes anything sony says, they deserve all they get, and no amount of jiggling words can change sony’s “wonderous” reputation among the people who can actually think for themselves.

It you are in New York, Texas or anywhere else that is suing Sony for distribution of the SONY XCP rootkit
Please ensure that this information is reported to the relevant party with examples. This will give those parties even more leverage over Sony.
