Intel even more inside
p2p news / p2pnet: Intel is going even further inside - inside the home, that is.
In an extreme make-over, Chipzilla will, " unveil a new corporate and brand identity that will include a reworked company logo that changes its familiar "Intel Inside" stickers," says the Associated Press, going on, that it’ll now, "try to market itself less as a chip outfit and more as a provider of platforms."
Changes will include, "removing the familiar dropped ‘e’ from the logo, which has been little changed since the company was founded in 1968 and simplifying the ‘Intel Inside’ stickers that first appeared in 1991," says AP.
The company’s strategy will be unveiled next week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, says the New York Times. "For consumers, the technology shift will mean laptop computers with longer battery life and computers that will become digital entertainment hubs in the living room."
When Chipzilla boss Paul S. Otellini takes the stage, he’s expected to present a new Intel focused on selling a digital lifestyle rather than hardware, says the NYT.
"Instead of bits and bytes, Mr. Otellini, the first nonengineer to run Intel, is expected to spend much of his time talking about cool new music and video features that will be made possible by the new home entertainment platform, called Viiv, and Core, a low-powered chip that will eclipse the Pentium M chip for portable computers.
"The transformation of Intel will, in part, be defined by its new alliance with Apple Computer, which has come to dominate the digital music business and is entering the nascent digital video market with its iPod players."
