Google PC and O/S?

p2p news / p2pnet: Can it be true? Is Google trying to out Microsoft Microsoft?

Google is apparently planning on pushing its own cheap PC, "or other device that connects to the Internet," says the Los Angeles Times.

"Sources say Google has been in negotiations with Wal-Mart Stores Inc., among other retailers, to sell a Google PC," says the story. "The machine would run an operating system created by Google, not Microsoft’s Windows, which is one reason it would be so cheap – perhaps as little as a couple of hundred dollars."

According to the LA Times, Google co-founder and president of products Larry Page, will use the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas to either, "show off a Google computing device or announce a partnership with a big retailer to sell such a machine".

Not only but also, "Content producers wonder whether Google’s push into video search will unravel the economics that make Hollywood hum. If viewers can find and legally download an episode of ‘Seinfeld’ through Google, will that cut into cable and network television’s profits?

"And what if Google, after equipping cities, starting with San Francisco, with Wi-Fi wireless technology, starts to offer pay-TV service for free?"

What if?

I had read of this earlier. There’s a lot missing in the article. You can just about be sure that if you want to surf the net it will be fine for that. You wanna play games or something then this Google pc won’t work for now.

However, welcome them into the arena. If nothing else, maybe it will convience Microsucks their products are priced way to high. Should Google make a dent in selling pcs then MS will respond possibly by lowering their prices.

Google will partner with the game developers and music and entertainment industries to have their own distribution network and sales channel .

I think apple may feel more of this if it uses a normal motherboard finding out why it can’t get a cut of the market is because its not there OS but there computers suck.

I wonder if Google’s OS will be Linux based or something completely new?
