Fight Goliath now at $3,254.10

p2p news / p2pnet: As of 5:20 am Pacific on January 6, 212 people on 13 sites had contributed $3,254.10 (yesterday, $2,766.33) to the Patti Santangelo Fight Goliath campaign.

They are:

  • http://boingboing.net $898.83
  • http://jasonrohrer.n3.net $894.52
  • http://p2pnet.net $656.42
  • http://www.downhillbattle.org $310.12
  • http://www.fightgoliath.org $289.46
  • http://www.p2pforum.it $56.75
  • http://virtualturntable.fourstones.net $48.25
  • http://psg.com/$19.12
  • http://www.p2pjihad.org/ $19.12
  • http://www.pod2peer.blogspot.com/ 18.92
  • http://www.yourmercifulgod.co.uk/ $18.92
  • http://blog.andrlik.org $14.26
  • http://http://www.myspace.com/brizmo $9.41

I’ve had a number of emails asking what’ll happen to the money when, thanks to your contributions, Santangelo has left the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) grovelling in the dust.

Unfortunately, she’s not the only one who’s being victimized.

For example, the case of 14-year-old Britanny Chan will be heard today in a Michigan court. The RIAA is demanding the appointment of a guardian ad litem so it can go after Britanny with greater dispatch.

In short, Patti is the beginning of the Fight Goliath campaign, not the end, and a non-profit corporation is now being set up to help other victims of the Big Four Organized Music gang, namely Sony BMG, Vivendi Universal, Warner Music and EMI.

Whatever is left over from the Santangelo case will be placed in escrow and a public board of directors will distribute funds to other victims.

So put a donations button on your site and help make it clear not only to the Big Four record labels, but also to the movie studios, software companies, and anyone else who needs to learn the lesson, that they depend on us, not the other way around.

Go here to see the money mount up, and to get the code which’ll let you put a donations button on your own site.

For now, contribute a buck or 10 with the p2pnet button below:

Cheers! And all the best. And thanks …

    (And stay tuned ; )

Any progress on a snail mail address to send funds? I’ll send some if I don’t have to use paypal.

    2. Reader's Write Says:

Okay, all who have complained about the RIAA thug tactics. You (we) now have a tangible way to help. This is THE precedent setting case so PONY UP NOW or forever hold your peace.

Um, the rest did not take my money.

Keep in mind, the powers that be want you to feel powerless. By yourself you don’t have much power. As a united group WE THE PEOPLE hold just about all the marbles. So, PUT UP OR SHUT UP, or perhaps it would be better to just lay down and let the music biz walk all over us?

I’m pretty sure the settelment option was withdrawn when she chose to take the case to court.

    5. Reader's Write Says:

Santangelo has many reasons to go on until she wins:

      1. She has kids and has to think about how she can contribute to leave them a better country.

      2. She will win her case in both courts: federal and public opinion. In the latter she has already won by a wide margin.

      3. No jury will side with the cartels and against the victim of an extorsion.

      4. If she wanted to settle, she would have done it before spending 20 or so grands.

      6. She is no coward.

      7. She just my become a historic figure, at least in the music business and who knows where else.

      8. She can make money off her book and movie rights.

    6. Reader's Write Says:

This isnt SPAM…for I have compiled a video of all of Mrs. Santangelo’s recent visits to the major media outlets and added some commentary in between clips.

My intentions are to help her with her plight and to promote progress towards a better solution.

You can find the video here….

      > Any progress on a snail mail address to send funds?

http://www.p2pnet.net/goliath/ says “…we’re working on a snail-mail address.” I believe this would be for the general anti-RIAA fund, which may go either to her or to someone else in similar difficulties, if her case ends up getting settled somehow.

http://p2pnet.net/story/7432 has a snail-mail address at the bottom for Ms. Santangelo herself — which does seem like a perfectly good place to send a donation at this point. Future legal expenses aside, it seems important to make sure she’ll at least break even on the $24,000 she’s spent already…

    8. Reader's Write Says:

Thank you. I was frustrated that I couldn’t save any of the wmv files permanently from the news sites that offered them despite trying with varying software programs. I noticed that your background for the CNN clip was different with Cary Sherman than the one that CNN had on their website. Their online clip showed him with a library in the background. He probably was in front of a blue screen, like the weatherman, with the background added in. Did you get your clip from the T.V.?

    9. Reader's Write Says:

This is a good system at northcountrynotes.org because it instantly shows total donations, as well as gives sites credit. That will work as an incentive for sites to try to raise the most money from their members and feel good about what they’ve done.

Keep up the good work and let’s try to reach $100,000!

    10. Reader's Write Says:

Can I send a contribution through snail mail ? I don’t send personal info over the web.

    11. Reader's Write Says:

One way to put these fears behind us, is for the campaign organisers to clearly and categorically state on their site, that no donations whatsoever will be used to pay-off the RIAA in any possible future settlement.

Also, it should be made clear that donations are solely for the purpose of a defence fund. They should go on to state that should any settlement be reached, all donations will be refunded immediately.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who remembers the donation drive over at Loki, who subsequently used the money to settle out of court.

Like many, I suppose, one of the reasons I have not yet donated is because of precisely this concern that my hard earned cash will ultimately end up in the pockets of the RIAA as part of a settlement or a court award in the event of defeat.

I call upon the “Fight Goliath Campaign” to categorically state this will not be the case, and to openly publish a binding statement to this effect, and offer a guarantee of a refund to all donators if a settlement is reached that requires a payment to the RIAA or their agents.

    12. Reader's Write Says:

Yes, if you don’t mind sending it directly to Ms. Santangelo with no strings attached — see the response to the first comment in this series. Otherwise, they’re apparently still working on jumping through all the appropriate hoops to make sure that snail-mail contributions will go to some worthy anti-RIAA purpose, even if this particular case gets settled somehow. From http://p2pnet.net/story/7502 : “Whatever is left over from the Santangelo case will be placed in escrow and a public board of directors will distribute funds to other victims.”

    13. Reader's Write Says:

People, before you send your money to these folks, please first consider giving it to charity. People are dying.
