Warner Bros moves to China

p2p news / p2pnet: There’s a lot going on between Hollywood and the powers-that-be in Communist China.

  • The MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) is the major studios’ public face and its boss, Dan ‘Jedi’ Glickman, seems to be over there every ten minutes.
  • The administration of joint US presidents Dick Cheney and George W. Bush is in calculated lock-step with Hollywood
  • Veiled and unveiled threats about what’ll happen if the world’s most repressive Communist regime doesn’t toe the Hollywood copyright line come thick and fast from many US quarters

  • California governor Arnold Schwarzenneger was recently in Hong Kong with martial arts comedian Jackie Chan, spouting the Hollywood line
  • China has set up several internal enforcement organizations solely designed to keep the Big Seven studios happy

Now, one of the majors, Warner Bros Entertainment, “plans to move its cinema construction design centre from London to Shanghai as part of a continuing expansion into the Chinese market, says AFX News.

This is expected to, “leverage the company’s exponential business opportunities in Asia, especially in the emerging market of China, the group said in a statement,” states AFX, quoting WBIC president Millard Ochs as saying:

“China is the next growth frontier for WBIC. The relocation of our Architecture and Construction Center to Shanghai marks a milestone in our expansion plans here and further demonstrates WBIC’s commitment to the China market.”

They’re obviously hoping to make movies in china and pay a lot less to do so.

Of course if they’d just stop paying “stars” tens of millions of dollars for a single movie that’d probly save them much more than cutting the wages of all the other ppl who work on a movie would.

How are the poor shmucks who are featuring in ads saying “piracy costs our jobs..” gonna feel when their employers outsource everything to china and sack them all? It’s gonna happen. It’s not a case of “if” it’s a case of “when”.

    I know what they’ll do if they don’t agree…..

    SUE EM ALL!

The media cartel is already on my boycott list. I just wonder if this cartel realizes how vulnerable to boycotting it really is, since people can refuse to buy their “product” and still get the benefit of watching or listening. Clearly, copyright was orginally meant to be extended to creators of works beneficial to society and for a limited time. It was not meant to be an unlimited monopoly extended to producers of crap. Because of outrageous prices and the refusal to compromise, the **AA’s have ruined the protections of copyright.
