Blog power and GoDaddy

p2p news / p2pnet: "With over 1000 Bittorrent sites registered to it it seems to be a really stupid move on godaddy.com part to start banning them and even going as far as to hold their domains hostage but that is exactly what they are doing," posted M-OOK.

First site to have been hit by their new war on bittorrents was mybittorrent.com but considering server other large bittorrent sites are registered with them we are sure more will fall prey soon.

As far as we know of at least 3 other top bittorrent sites:

torrentspy.com
mininova.org
isohunt.com

are also registered with godaddy.

BUT >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

UPDATE, says M-OOK today

"Thanks to all our readers and the readers on Digg and other blogs for your support! A rep from GoDaddy has Called and ‘cleared up the misunderstanding’ they Will restart the DNS services for MyBitTorrent.com and allow MyBittorrent to freely transfer to another registry of their choice.

"Again the power of Blogging has prevailed! *** Godaddy did the right thing!"

(Thanks, DaBlade)

Will Go Daddy pledge not to block torrent sites ever again for hosting torrents? If this is just temporary relief in order for MyBitTorrent.com to find another registrar, then I have a big problem. IF this is the case and Go Daddy is allowed to get away with it, then how many other registrars will follow? The Domain Name Registrars should remember what allowed them into the business in the first place (an alternative DNS system).

An alternative domain naming system is still feasable to implement if it ever becomes necessary!

From what I heard they are staying with GoDaddy.com. If GoDaddy will try something like this again is hard to tell, but with bad reps and loss of business from them it would seem like a bad move on GoDaddy’s part. I have to say the quick action to restore them was not only the threat of lawsuit but the actual bad publicity they got on the net.

Not sure if it is a real end to this issue but if godaddy does act up agian I am sure it will hurt their pockets much deeper than mybittorrent’s pockets.

From what I heard this was related to Microshit strongarming. Strange they would go after a Registrar though. But its Microshit, they can do anything they want and get away with it!
