Beach Boys v ‘music thieves’
p2p news / p2pnet: Beach Boys suing music ‘thieves’
That’s the headline in a BBC story and Yes, it’s another copyright violation item, of a kind, but No, it’s not the latest trumped-up Big Four record label effort to use a mega-band to attack the p2p networks and the people who use them.
This time, thievery really is involved and, "The Beach Boys are seeking millions of dollars in damages from two men they claim stole recordings and memorabilia from a warehouse in order to sell them," says the story.
"The band claims Roy Sciacca and Allan Gaba violated the group’s copyright, trademark and ‘right of publicity’ by trying to auction the goods in October. They are seeking more than $20m (£11.3m) for the trademark claim alone, in the Los Angeles court action."
In 1994, the Beach Boys cleared a warehouse but the band, "claimed Mr Gaba had removed 13 to 25 boxes of their memorabilia without permission," adds the Beeb.
"Last October, Mr Sciacca contacted UK-based auction house Cooper Owen and attempted to put the items up for sale, the legal action stated. The auction was cancelled half an hour before it had been due to start," .

I’m 56, is that too old, should I just die. Your comment offends me. The Beach Boys have a right to their possessions and a right to sue anyone who rips them off and THEN tries to auction the “hot” property.
Are you also saying that you don’t care for any music that is performed by anyone over 50?
Either you’re a troll or very immature. Don’t worry sweetie, you will be “old” too someday. I’ll be watching the clock.

Yet another reason why the two-parent working family should not be encouraged; left at home “latchkey” kids grow up to be sefl-centered, petulant, spoiled, unmannerred kids.
Most parents I know today, have no concept of how to discipline a child, nor do they even bother to require any sort of deference to elders. Then they are shocked and impressed by how well mannerred my children are. Well duh, they know they get royal crap if they behave badly. Others let their kids rule them, and posters like the above are what grow out of that.
It’s so bad these days that I will discipline anyone’s kids that behave badly in front of me; you can see in some of their eyes they have NEVER been told NO, likely for fear of them “not feeling good.”
Sometimes I do it right in front of the parents. They are so daft, they don’t even know they should be upset with someone else telling their kid what to do.
Then again, maybe they are just thankful for someone with a backbone when it comes to kids.
Either way, kids surely ARE in a dreamland where they think they know everything… but the well mannerred ones, know to keep their mouths shut, less they be proved wrong.
Too much freedom at too young an age, no self-respect, no discipline, and no societal “norms” anymore. It’s a left-lib free-for-all world where “feeling good” is the only major requirement.
I fear it’s the downfall of western civilization, should the next generation or two not learn from the past.

To you and the above poster, I just want to say “Thank You.” I was so angry when I read the first comment that I didn’t have enough patience to get the words together as both of you did so eloquently.
Thank you again.

Ok folks, really not worth sermonizing over the first post – the person who typed that was clearly just an oaf who hasn’t got an appreciation for the Beach Boys.
In some respects I can agree – I count Pet Sounds among my favourite albums of all time, but don’t think Brian Wilson et al have produced any great work since except for the seminal single “Good Vibrations”.
So while I don’t think they should “die”, I suspect their lack of decent output in the last three decades should indicate it’s time to lay the “band” to rest.
Pity the person who posted the first comment lacked the sophistication to voice her or his opinion in suitable terms, and pity as well that the several people who replied had little enough self-confidence that they took the post personally.
I for one think that the boomers had and still have some valuable contributions to society, but find it rather rich that someone should say children of today are undisciplined and will grow up spoilt in contrast to the boom children, likely the most spoilt generation in the history of America, doted on by parents who were so relieved to be out of a war that massive breeding was their only expression of release and the children born were celebrated as wonders because their parents were glad to be alive and living in peace.
True, the first poster (like many other young folk) was very rude – but I have experienced far deeper rudeness at the hands of boomers than at the hands of kids of today – maybe that’s the combined effect of my self-confidence not being affected by the opinion of a child and my disgust at a 60-year-old not having learnt common courtesy in many decades on the earth.
The generation before the boom would have been far too polite to behave that way when they were in THEIR sixties. Time for all and sundry to grow up, I suspect.

I am on Mr. Sciacca’s side.
The Beach Boys gave there stuff away. and now that the new found owner is getting someting off of it they are mad. He did not “rip them off”
so dont go saying that and trying to sound all defending. the beach boys are a good band. but are bad people. so try getting to know the story first.
