Defining spyware
p2p news / p2pnet: The Anti-Spyware Coalition (ASC)’s final “risk model description” to help users combat spyware infesting their computers has now been released.
It details objective criteria anti-spyware developers use to determine if a specific piece of software should be classified as ’spyware’ and flagged for potential removal by people using anti-spyware software.
Developed by coalition members and shaped by more than 100 comments submitted by organizations and individuals to the ASC, it’s now available on the ASC web site.
The first ASC public workshop, “Defining the Problem, Creating Solutions”, is slated for February 9 at the Hyatt Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. The organization will also hold a second public workshop in Ottawa, Ontario, on May 16, focusing on the international dimensions associated with the problem of spyware and other potentially unwanted technologies.
