SurfControl and p2pnet

p2p news / p2pnet: “Did you know that your site is considered to be high risk by surf control as they block all access to it?” – asked a p2pnet reader on January 13.

So we emailed SurfControl wondering why that was.

“After reviewing your site, we have changed your categorization from Peer-to-Peer to Computing & nternet,” the company told us yesterday, adding:

“Please note that each individual company can change site categorizations to map to their Acceptable Usage Policy. As such, it is possible for your site to still be blocked if a reader’s company blocks that particular category.”

Just for the hell of it, we tried MPAA.org and RIAA.com got, “mpaa.org is in our list and categorized as Arts” and the RIAA is, “categorized as Entertainment”.

Thepiratebay.org is also on the list. But it’s categorized as Peer-to-Peer.
