747btrfly spreads her wings
p2p news / p2pnet: With the Net, people can spread their wings and fly and with that in mind, believe it or not, at least one good thing has come ultimately from Sony BMG’s rootkit spyware/DRM phk-up.
Last November, we quoted Beverly Hamilton (with whom we’d been exchanging emails on various topics for quite a while) on the subject. Known online as the u2btrfly or 747btrfly, Bev was afraid the Sony BMG code would poison her ‘puter.
"I’m not much of a computer expert but I know I no longer want anything to do with BMG," she said at the time. "I was a member of the BMG Music Club but I canceled my membership …"
We’ve since quoted Bev in other p2pnet stories and then one day Bev, who’s 56 and had to quit her job as a medical transcriptionist and assistant when her back was broken during a street attack, saw the light.
So now she’s a blogger : ) with Not Enough Time on My Hands.
In her latest post she says, "To get an idea of how this all came about, writing kind of blossomed for me when I went back to college at 40 years of age. Wonderful professors had encouraged me. Getting A’s on term papers was the norm.
"However, these term papers were done usually about two or three days before due and after an entire night of staying awake, editing, drinking at least two liters of wine, smoking a J, and more editing and retyping ad nauseum.
"Four A.M. in the morning would roll around and I would go off to take a snooze until 8 AM. Looking at my term paper when I had pried my eyes open, I’d grumble miserably ‘Who wrote this crap?!’ But it would be too late to edit anymore, it would just have to get tossed on the prof’s desk, warts and all. "They would toss me back an A+. A true ‘Ernestine Hemingway’ I was. Now, my writing may not be as well-received by those professors – I quit drinking a year ago.
"So anyway, I’m taking a leap of faith here and I’ll be letting p2pnet.net know that my literary masterpiece is up for viewing.
"Have at it, Jon and friends."
Heh. Good on ya ;P
