Windows XP on an Intel Mac

p2p news / p2pnet: Could you make Windows XP happen on an Intel Mac?

If you could, it’ll put money on your pocket – $3,097 at the time of writing.

"My MacBook is shipping on the 15th of February," posts Colin, from Houston, Texas, on his contest blog, going on:

"I told my boss that this would replace my IBM desktop and I could boot Windows XP on it. I am still confident it can be done. I am pledging $100 of my own money and offering anyone else who would like the instructions on how to Dual boot these two operating systems the ability to donate some of their money into the pot as a reward for the person / group that can make dual-booting Mac OS X and Windows XP happen on an Intel Mac."

In case you think this is a scam, you can phone Colin (his number is on his blog) or email him @ contest[at]pintmaster.com.

"My whole reason for starting this contest is to give people the incentive to stay up late, get creative and risk killing their computer to give all of us out there who want to boot windows XP a fighting chance to get that going," he swears, adding:

"When you donate some money, I will post your name on the front page First L. and the amount you donated. All of my accounting will be fully open. if you see something fishy, report it on Digg or one of the other websites this contest is publicised on. I will be shut down faster than you can say ‘Intel Mac’."

The rules?

1. Instructions must boot Windows XP (at least), not Vista or any other version of Windows.
2. Windows must be able to coexist with Mac OS X and each system may not interfere with the operation of the other (basically a traditional dual boot system where one OS is running at a time)
3. Your method, upon starting the computer, must offer the user to boot either OS X or Windows XP (hint: GRUB)
4. The first person to email complete instructions, including pictures of the boot process to contest<at}pintmaster.com will be the winner. Instructions will be peer reviewed once they are received and once the solution is guaranteed working, the prize money will be transferred via paypal
5. You give Colin’s site the rights to post your solution.

Stay tuned.

Maybe you should try linux :)

  2. Reader's Write Says:

I thought linux was already done, anyway if it wasn’t for talking about dual boot I would wonder why waste your money on an apple computer.
