Student sits exams in ‘cuffs
p2p news / p2pnet: Iranian blogger Mojtaba Saminejad, a social communications student who’s been in jail since February last year, was taken in handcuffs to sit his exams at Tehran’s Azad University on January 21, says Reporters Without Borders.
Bloggers such as Mojtaba, "represent no threat to Iranian society," states RWB. "On the contrary, they support the emergence of a citizen’s debate."
He was first arrested in November 2004 for speaking out against the arrest of three colleagues and, While he was in prison, his web site, http://man-namanam.blogspot.com, was hacked by people, "linked to the Iranian Islamist Hezbollah movement," says the story.
"On leaving jail, he relaunched his blog at a new address (http://8mdr8.blogspot.com), which led to his re-imprisonment, on 12 February 2005."
Mojtaba was sentenced in June 2005 to two years in prison for “insulting the Supreme Guide”. One month later he was given an extra ten months in prison for incitement to “immorality”.
"He couldn’t write the first three of his final exams because of the shortcomings of the people in charge," says a post on his old site. “He was not allowed to sit with the other students for the final exam. He had to write it in a separate room, while he was still handcuffed.
"He was returned after the exam to prison. He is supposed to write the other two finals remaining in the next few days."
Mojtaba was, "arrested and charged because of writing in his weblog, and criticizing and insulting the supreme leader," says man-namanam.
The BBC has just said its Persian language site is being blocked by the Iranian authorities, no reason given.

I say we start kicking the butts of authorities of countries were people live under oppression. Make it look like an accident. Send some special ops, or something. You know, one or two of those guys that wear night vision googles. Whatever it takes to bring those countries to democracy.

I don’t know about the OP feelings on the issue, but I find America to be a very nice shithole. It may suck at times, but it certainly is a lot better than many of the other available choices in the world.
Also, a great way to keep people away is to insult them…… whatever happened to civilized conversations with reasons as to why you actually feel that way.
For example: Why do you feel America is a (as you say) “shithole”?

I am South-American, but I live in the US. The US is a great place; the one thing I don’t like about the US though is the economic model they have and love so much where just the bottom line matters, whereas in Europe (Social Capitalism) both people and bottom line matter. Enough of ECO 101 though.
The second poster probably thought I was calling for an attack on an entire nation where democracy doesn’t exist, but I was just saying only those authorities that are a real obstacle towards democracy should be eliminated by these night vision google wearing buddies.
I hate people from other countries do not have the freedoms I enjoy, that’s all. The end justifies the means, at least in these cases.
OP.
