Patti Santangelo fights on
p2p news / p2pnet: Activists Aid Woman in Music Piracy Case, says ABC News. Internet activists help get lawyer for woman accused of piracy, says the Boston Herald. Activists aid woman in music piracy case, says Business Week, Activists Aid Woman in Music Piracy Case, says Forbes and on the other side of the world, Internet activists help get lawyer for woman accused of piracy, says the Malaysia Star.
And they’re all talking about you and your efforts to help new York mother Patti Santangelo single-handedly take on the Big Four record label cartel’s RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America). There’s a whole raft more of similar headlines on Google, Yahoo, and so on. But you get the point.
You’ve been contributing to the Fight Goliath campaign and thanks to you, as I write this, $6,378.88 has so far been poured into the kitty. And it’s allowed Patti to retain lawyer Jordan Glass to help her.
Because there’s no way on earth she can take on the likes of Shook, Hard Bacon by herself.
Most of the headlines refer to Jim Fitzgerald’s Associated Press national report, or re-hashes of it.
Yesterday, I heard from him in an email saying Patti was in court. When he asked her how she was now able to afford a lawyer, she credited you – all the people not only in North America, but from around the world who’ve donated dollars, lira, pounds …….
Most of the stories, such as the one in Forbes, were based on Fitzgerald’s story and among the questions he asked was, “What kind of people are the donors?”
“Ordinary kids, musicians, students, moms, dads, writers, waiters, programmers, bus drivers, artists,” we said. Another question was, “Can you tell me why you started raising money for her case?”
We’re, “trying to help Patti take on what’s become the common enemy - the corporate music industry, with its bottomless pockets and legions of lawyers,” we said.
So – pat yourselves on the back : ) But remember: this is the start, not the finish. And if you’re wondering, read Alex H’s thoughts.
For now, keep it going. Make a donation - doesn’t matter how much or how little - through the button below, and/or by adding one to your web site. Get the code here.

— I doin’t seen anything about P2PNet —
That’s almost to be expected. Think about it.
As long as the word is spreading, which it is, everything is cool. And remember - behind the Patti fund is a message you can be sure the entertainment cartels are getting ever more loudly, and that is:
We don’t depend on you. You depend on us.
Don’t phk with us.
The lamescream media used to be where it’s at. Not any more. We (that’s you and me and everyone who has a blog or a site or who posts on forums) are in charge and we’re a hell of a lot faster and more clued in than CNN, or Fox, or any one else.
Cheers!

Not even that we are more tuned into our surroundings, but the companies like CNN and Fox are all controlled by big media conglomerates who have a vested interest in stopping people who illegally (I’m referring to the guys who sell 4 DVDs for $5 on street corners) distribute their products. So it would be against the companies best wishes for one of their news networks to state that P2P file-sharing is hurting their profits since it would look like (and they are) they are just lying and f*cking people over with their bs.

Where does Jordan Glass work? There is no reference to his name on the NYS bar association.

Actually, I found this story on FOX’s website:

All the links in this article are a bit messed up!

While I admit that I don’t have all the facts about this case, I do think that it would have just been eaiser to buy the music you want to listen to, instead of downloading it and facing a court case. If over $6,000.00 is available to fund Patti’s efforts, then I think the money is available to purchase music.
Stop Stealing.
Thanks for reading,

Ian obviously never made a mixed tape for a girlfriend.
Over 7K now Ian.
Ian make sure you encrypt your wireless network at home. If I ever file share I’ll just use an unsecured hotspot in some neighborhood.
Right out of the box I can do that with a laptop. I remember napster , the rest is all new to me. I keep seeing Patti’s name in the news and I keep learning more of what’s going on.
This is a paradym shift. I can’t even imagine what’s coming out the other end.

I’m an older American and haven’t been into downloading either music or movies. Nor will I start, not because it’s ‘illegal’, but because I can’t afford to fight the industries. What I am doing, now that RIAA and the motion picture organization are sueing private individuals for ‘piracy’, is no longer buying CDs or going to movies.
I would like to see a campaign started to boycott both the record industry and the movie industry until they agree not to try and bankrupt private citizens by dragging them into court.
Just my thoughts on the matter.
