I’m an older American and haven’t been into downloading either music or movies. Nor will I start, not because it’s ‘illegal’, but because I can’t afford to fight the industries. What I am doing, now that RIAA and the motion picture organization are sueing private individuals for ‘piracy’, is no longer buying CDs or going to movies.

I would like to see a campaign started to boycott both the record industry and the movie industry until they agree not to try and bankrupt private citizens by dragging them into court.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

Ian obviously never made a mixed tape for a girlfriend.

Ian make sure you encrypt your wireless network at home. If I ever file share I’ll just use an unsecured hotspot in some neighborhood.

Right out of the box I can do that with a laptop. I remember napster , the rest is all new to me. I keep seeing Patti’s name in the news and I keep learning more of what’s going on.

This is a paradym shift. I can’t even imagine what’s coming out the other end.

While I admit that I don’t have all the facts about this case, I do think that it would have just been eaiser to buy the music you want to listen to, instead of downloading it and facing a court case. If over $6,000.00 is available to fund Patti’s efforts, then I think the money is available to purchase music.

Not even that we are more tuned into our surroundings, but the companies like CNN and Fox are all controlled by big media conglomerates who have a vested interest in stopping people who illegally (I’m referring to the guys who sell 4 DVDs for $5 on street corners) distribute their products. So it would be against the companies best wishes for one of their news networks to state that P2P file-sharing is hurting their profits since it would look like (and they are) they are just lying and f*cking people over with their bs.

As long as the word is spreading, which it is, everything is cool. And remember – behind the Patti fund is a message you can be sure the entertainment cartels are getting ever more loudly, and that is:

The lamescream media used to be where it’s at. Not any more. We (that’s you and me and everyone who has a blog or a site or who posts on forums) are in charge and we’re a hell of a lot faster and more clued in than CNN, or Fox, or any one else.
