China bans Brokeback Mountain
p2p news / p2pnet: Brokeback Mountain, a tale of love between two cowhands, was named best drama at the Golden Globe awards and has won the Producers Guild of America’s Number One award. Check it out on the torrent sites and you’ll find plenty of hits.
It’s getting a lot of rave reviews but Communist China’s State Administration of Radio, Film & Television has censored it, says the BBC, quoting Variety.
Why? Because, the gay cowboy romance, by Taiwan director Ang Lee, is, “too controversial to be shown in the country where homosexuality is a taboo.”
Also unlikely to show in China is Memoirs of a Geisha, says the Beeb, although Ireland Online disagrees.
Starring China’s Gong Li and Ziyi Zhang, the flic’s sexual content, “caused a stir, but distributor Columbia TriStar insists the movie will eventually be screened in China,” says the story, adding:
“General manager Li Chow says: ‘The movie has been passed by the censors and is now in the dubbing process. We’ve had no official screening date, but we’re optimistic ‘Geisha’ will be shown here’.”
Memoirs, too, is online, although there aren’t as many torrents as there are for Brokeback.
Meanwhile, Google is still being widelty criticized for agreeing to censor

And so is tolerance to homosexuality as well. Don’t forget that homosexuality is condemed as an abonimation in the Bible. God loves them just the same, He just doesn’t love what they do.

You say homosexuality is disgusting but do you find homosexuality of both sexes disgusting. There’s alot of double standards in society and labeling yourself as a homophobic or that you hate homosexuals is hard to justify. The Hebrew Bible is also known as the Old Testament in the Christian Bible. He does not need to be Jewish to believe in it.
To the Third Poster: Since I have not been answered, I will repeat my question. Why is it ok to condemn homosexuality based on Leviticus 18:22 while ignoring many other passages of Leviticus? Do you believe in executing children who swear at their parents or not?

It’s kind of a waste of your time isn’t it? I mean if he thinks tolerance is disgusting he isn’t even a follower of christ. christ whom reached out to the rejected…the fringes…the poor, the lepers, the prostitutes. Whom stopped stonings. christ didn’t just pay for everyones sins..to paraphased the writer “christ loves you so that I can hate you.” He’s not a believer in christ. He wants a wrath of god universe…like the old time religions. He’d probably make a good aztec. That they are gone makes this even more true.

Yeah, I probably am wasting my time. I guess I was hoping that he was just ignorant of the facts instead of hiding his disdain of homosexuality behind the bible but that is probably a naïve hope. You are right on all fronts.
