AOL wants online gold rush
p2p news / p2pnet: AOL and "Survivor" producer Mark Burnett are about to link up with an unreal ‘reality’ show called Gold Rush.
Online Media Daily describes it as an "online reality treasure chase" which’ll, "track the progress of contestants as they cross the country searching for buried booty".
But AOL and Burnett aren’t alone in wanting to put Reality TV online.
"The announcement follows word that AOL rival Yahoo is in talks with Burnett to develop a similar reality treasure hunt," says the story. "Yahoo, Burnett, and LivePlanet – a production company founded in part by actors Matt Damon and Ben Affleck – are considering resurrecting ABC’s scrapped reality TV series ‘The Runner’ as an online series, a Yahoo spokeswoman confirmed told OnlineMediaDaily earlier this month. The venture has not yet been green-lighted, the spokeswoman said."
And last year Bill and the Boyz tried to cash in on the reality-show craze with a Microsoft rockstar.msn.com, the site for Burnett’s Rock Star: INXS.
Thankfully, Gold Rush episodes will apparently be less than five minutes long, says Reuters.
"These will be the core element of a competition in which members of the public race to find stores of gold hidden in the United States, guided by clues that initially will be placed throughout such AOL properties as AOL.com, AIM.com, Moviefone.com and MapQuest.com but are expected to appear in other media, too," it says.
Burnett gloats, "This is the biggest volume of eyeballs ever available in history. More people are on computers every day than sit down and watch TV at night. The Internet is about to become the next broadcast network."
Details weren’t disclosed.
