The Rosen, Berman duo
p2p news / p2pnet: Ex-RIAA head Hilary Rosen and her former mentor Jay Berman, another ex-RIAA supremo as well as the former boss of the IFPI, have opened a company designed to milk to the max what passes today as ‘piracy,’ thanks largely to their combined PR efforts.
“And along with noted economist Barry Massarsky, Berman and Rosen have developed a set of criteria and economic models to help investors anticipate the impact of piracy on acquisitions and investments in companies dependent on intellectual property assets,” they say in their first puff piece.
Berman Rosen Global Strategies will, “focus on intellectual property protection, digital media technology and distribution, international trade issues and anti-piracy strategies and the communications and public affairs issues related to this marketplace,” they say.
And it looks as if Amy Weiss, another ex-RIAA truth realignment specialist, is with them.
Talk about an unholy trinity ; )
Berman Rosen Global Strategies will be affiliated with Public Strategies, they add.

Berman Rosen Global Strategies?
A plan to take over the world through copyrights shenanigans.
Or at least to take the money and run.

Jay Berman was also on the board of Loudeye, owner of Overpeer the spoofing company that planted spoofed recordings on the web to the annoyance of music consumers and the amusement of unauthorised sites who increased their value as traffic increased to cope. Unfortunately cheating music consumers with fake recordings wasn’t a long term business propostion with Overpeer recently closed down.
Berman’s relationship with Loudeye may even have been while he was emeritus chairman of the IFPI!

These people steered the music industry through its well known acceptance of the digital revolution. Maybe this consultancy should be called “better late than never”.

You are forgetting this is the same woman who lobbied strong for legal protection for DRM, and then after DRM was deployed complained that she couldn’t exchange DRM encoded files (cryptographically locked content) between the players of different DRM vendors (different DRM keys/etc).
This is like buying a pool full of water and then complaining that the water is wet. It shows a complete lack of understanding of what she is asking for.
Rosen lacks any useful knowledge to share with clients, so I have to feel sorry for the people duped by her snake oil. Then again, she is worse than a snake oil salesperson as I don’t think she is bright enough to realize that she hasn’t a clue about what she is talking about.
