Opera 9 with BitTorrent
p2p news / p2pnet: Opera says the BitTorrent protocol will be part of the upcoming Opera 9 browser, meaning users won’t need a separate application to find, and download, torrent content.
BT technology will be implemented in the Opera browser in two ways, says Opera.
First, "users can search for torrent files in the Opera browser’s integrated search field," and second, "when a file has been selected, Opera’s Transfer Manager feature will handle the download."
An Opera 9 TP2 (technical preview) will be available soon, says the company, emphasizing it, "should be used for preview purposes only".
Opera introduced the first TP of the Opera browser for Windows, Linux and Mac with support for BitTorrent last summer.

Why should people use this, when dedicated BT clients, such as Azureus, always end up doing a better job? It’s pretty obvious to everyone within P2P that multi-network P2P clients work like crap. Multi-purpose applications must be even worse… Mediocre implementation of BT…
And, Opera is proprietary. They lock up all their code so noone can change or improve upon it.
I say stick with what works, people. Azureus, KTorrent, Yet ABC and all the other dedicated BT clients.

I agree. The software design policy of “do one thing and do it well” always rings true to me.

Actually, Opera’s the Swiss Army Knife of the internet and particularly handy if you’re a developer, but hey – it’s a question of taste.
Crap multi-functional items have features for features’ sake alone – and they deserve to be buried in the desert.
