iTunes billionth download
p2p news / p2pnet: It’s taken a while – since 2003, in fact – but Apple is on the verge of announcing its billionth iTunes download.
iTunes is far more an iPod service vehicle than a true download application but nevertheless, to all intents and purposes, it’s the one and only viable corporate music service out there, music industry claims that there 300 active online industry sites notwithstanding.
And Apple has announced a contest for the lead-up to the billionth download, says MacRumours.
"There will be prizes awarded for every 100,000 song milestone starting at 950,100,000 including a black 4GB iPod nano & a $100 iTunes Music Card," it states, adding:
"The grand prize winner who downloads the 1 billionth song will receive 1 20-inch iMac, 10 60GB iPods (5 white, 5 black) and a $10,000 iTunes Music Card."
Meanwhile, in the real world of online music, in one month alone – September, 2005 – the average number of files available on p2p networks for download at any given moment (average simultaneous files) was almost three billion – 2,789,154,393, to be exact, Net research firm BigChampagne told p2pnet.
