MS AntiSpyware fingers Symantec
p2p news / p2pnet: A Windows AntiSpyware update has targeted some Symantec security tools as malicious software.
"The updated software identified a Windows registry key set by the Symantec products as belonging to password stealing malicious software known as Bancos," Microsoft and Symantec said in a joint statement Monday, says CNET News.
"The deletion of these registry keys will cause all versions of the SAV (Symantec AntiVirus) and SCS (Symantec Client Security) software to stop operating correctly," Microsoft and Symantec said in the statement.
Microsoft released a fix and the two companies have, "prepared a tool to repair installations of Symantec’s software that were affected".
And guess what? MS and S aren’t going to charge victims for the repair, which is available from Symantec’s support department, says the story.
"Coincidentally, Microsoft and Symantec – longtime partners – last week took jabs at each other over the former’s official entrance into the consumer security market," says TechWeb News.
"Symantec made a point, however, to stress that its consumer titles, including Norton Antivirus and Norton Internet Security, were not affected by the Microsoft mistake."

Bah i wish i never purchased $ymantec Corp products. There antivirus deletes a remote administration tool written and sold by Famtech called RADMIN. Radmin is in direct competition with $ymantec’s PC Anywhere…
What do Symatec do after numerous requests (from Famtech) to exclude Radmin from their ($ymantec) virus definitions… NOTHING
From Symantec Corp Antivirus Manual
“Symantec AntiVirus clients use TCP ports 2967 and 1024-5000 for almost all
communications with Symantec AntiVirus servers”
Configuring this amount of ports on windows firewall (x 20 computers) via Group Policy is next to impossible . One wonders if Symantec have configured there client/server antivirus in a way that is next to incompatible with windows firewall… Im sure you wouldnt have any problems if you were running a $ymantec firewall.
$ymantec …. Fuckem
