Copyright Awareness Week
p2pnet news view | Kids & Kartels:- Ever heard of Copyright Awareness Week? If you haven’t, that’s no big surprise. It’s yet another of the oily PR stunts dreamed up by the entertainment and software cartels as they continue their drive to turn copyright infringement, a purely commercial civil matter, into a major crime on the level of rape and murder.
It’s a ridiculous proposition, but, mainstream-media backed, it’s succeeding and the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) says it’s, “partnering” with “other groups” to, “promote education of students about the history and importance of copyright laws during a March Copyright Awareness Week”.
As we’ve suggested repeatedly, copyright law has no place in ordinary education systems. Yet the corporate music, movie and software industries are invading classrooms not only in America, but also around the world with their spurious message that copyright infringement is of vital importance.
And parents and educators are not only letting them do it, they’re helping - helping to turn their kids into good little mindless consumers.
Now, during this phony Copyright Awareness Week, “Age-specific curricula are available online,” says the MPAA, going on that supporting it are the vested interest Copyright Society, Directors Guild of America, The Film Foundation, the Entertainment Software Association and Business Software Alliance, creators of Willy the Copyright Weasel (right).
Thank God we home-school our daughter.

Here are some education suggestions:
a. Educate kids so they know how copyright laws are used to make them criminal for doing the obvious, mundane thing: copying music in the cds that are sold now in lots of 100 for $20.
b. How copyright law is used to opress and destroy culture and to promote worthless art.
c. Educate kids that want to write songs about how the music publishers take away the works of songwriters and how all the money made off the songs wind up in the hands of a few in the copyright cartels.
d. Educate kids that want to become diplomats on how copyright and patenst create hate to developed countries in less developed or poor countries as a result of the tactics of the copyright and patent cartels in those countries. Thus fomenting terrorism and revolutions.
e. How foreign songwriters have been raped by American music publishers.
e. Some copyright legislature history: How lobbies have turned legislators in many countries into lackey of the copyright and patent cartels.

How about explaining to kids how copying a single dvd for backup purposes or to give to a friend could get them a five year jail sentence and a $250,000 fine and if five dvds were copied, the sentence could be far worse than for murder.
And let us not forget the kid that was given a 100 blank dvd package, not for having 100 coasters, but for copying dvds. Explain to the kids that the person who gave them the disks, possibly their parents, are in reality their enemies, as they could wind up in jail for the rest of their lives if the use the balnk dvd gift.
And please explain to the kids how it got to be that the FBI, whose job is to protect the kids, the future of America, wrote the threatening warning that appears on the dvds when played, and thus the FBI became a threat to the kids they are supposed to protect.
Also explain to the kid that the judge who may send them to jail likely was and possibly still is a copier him/herself and probably has kids or granchildren or neighbors or friends who are likely criminal copiers too.
