City of London gets Wi-Fi
p2p news / p2pnet: The Bowler Hat Brigade in Britain’s famous City of London will soon be able to surf via Wi-Fi subscription or pay-as-you-go accounts.
Access will be through wireless links fitted into lamp-posts and street signs.
"We feel it is important to provide this technology to maintain our position as the world’s leading international financial centre," the Guardian Unlimited has City of London spokesman Michael Snyder, saying.
"Because of the City’s high buildings and narrow streets, more than 150 beacons will be needed to ensure coverage."
ISP The Cloud will pay for the network and provide access for the emergency services and other public bodies, says the Guardian.
Residents and visitors to Islington in north London already have Wi-Fi covering The Angel to Highbury Corner. And their version is free.
