Baidu search: doing very well
p2p news / p2pnet: While Google suffers extreme, and thoroughly well-deserved, international criticism for actively helping China to censor online news and information, Baidu, the Chinese search engine in which it has financial stake, is raking it in.
Its fourth quarter 2005 total revenues increased by 29.2% increase from the previous quarter and by 167.7% increase over the corresponding period in 2004, says ChinaTechNews, going on:
"Baidu says it expects to generate total revenues in an amount ranging from RMB125 million (about $15,536,249) to RMB130 million (about $16,157,699) for the first quarter of 2006, representing a 174% to 185% increase from the corresponding period in 2005.
Total revenues for 2005 were RMB 319.2 million (about $39,673,366), representing a 171.8% increase from the previous year; and, online marketing revenues were RMB 307.4 million (about $38,206,744) for the entire year of 2005, representing a 187.6% increase from the previous year.
As of December 31, 2005, Baidu had 1,307 full time employees, up from 349 at the end of 2004, adds the story.
