The MPAA’s Vaudeville Dan

p2p news / p2pnet: “Rhoda!” Dan Glickman belted it out. “I’m home!” He slammed the door.

“Rhoda gave him the kind of look that only a first wife could conjure. It hooked into his slumping shoulders and reeled back 39 years. There were secrets in her smile, things she knew.”

Jeez.

That’s the intro to a Washington Post column featuring MPAA boss China Dan Glickman, scourge of Dark Farces everywhere, and his wife, Rhoda, just regular folks, folks.

“It had been a demanding day for the president of the Motion Picture Association of America, busy in the run-up to the Academy Awards, where he’ll stroll down the red carpet with the stars,” says the item, going on that being MPAA president is, “the most glamorous lobbying job in Washington, championing studio lawsuits and fighting piracy,” and all. “Yet newspaper stories about Dan have described him as ‘inelegant’ and ‘as flat as Kansas’.

But, “Rhoda knows better. She smiled as she watched him take off his blazer, a close-lipped smile that takes time to ripen, the thin, smiling line between mockery and awe.”

Jeez.

The piece describes China Dan as a singer and comedian whose, “theatrical antics actually helped him in politics,” and comes in Laura Blumenfeld’s contribution to Washington Post’s Off Camera, “a monthly column featuring Washington’s top decision makers in their off hours – outside the office and inside their lives.”

The MPAA, meanwhile, exists to make the world safe for Glickman’s bosses, the Big Six movie studios.

The pic is a clip from WP photographer Gerald Martineau’s photo of the happy couple.

Does anyone want to earn a quick and easy £10 (about $ 17.45)?

UK satirical magazine Private Eye runs a feature called Pseud’s Corner (email pseuds@private-eye.co.uk).

Yes,. We did ; ) And if our submission wins, the $ will go straight into the Patti Santangelo Fight Goliath fund.

Stay tuned.

    Unfuckinbelievable

  2. Reader's Write Says:

Please do not insult my home state of Kansas. We are not as “flat” as this jerkoff.

  3. Reader's Write Says:

“Dan’s theatrical antics actually helped him in politics, Dan said. In 1992, Dan was tarnished by writing 105 check overdrafts at the House Bank.”
