‘New’ Sorbada: subscriptions
p2p news / p2pnet: When the Big Four record labels’ KAPP forced Soribada, Korea’s largest p2p file sharing company, to take its Soribada 3 site offline, the company said it would soon launch new p2p software and ind indeed, it’s announced plans to introduce a new service, says the Korea Times.
However, it’ll be subscription based.
Rentals, in other words.
The news came in a joint press conference with the Korean Association of Phonogram Producers (KAPP), Korea’s version of the RIAA, CRIA, ARIA, etc, etc.
“KAPP, a lobby representing music artists and record labels, said that it has also accepted an out-of-court settlement of 8.5 billion won (About $82,515,310 ) in damages from Soribada,” says the story.
“The new Soribada will be modeled after other subscription services like SKT Melon, Bugs and MaxMP3, but will be somewhat different,” adds the Korea Times, quoting Soribada creator Yang Jung-hwan.
Soribada 5 is slated for a March 5 release, adds the story.
