Womens’ rights in India

p2p news / p2pnet: "I’m several days late getting to this one, but better late than never," says Violet Blue in a BoingBoing post, going on:

"The Blank Noise Project is a blog-a-thon that Indian women did on March 7 to raise awareness about "eve teasing." This extreme form of public sexual harassment happens to women in India all the time – from horrifically early ages, onward.

"Women and young girls are threatened for wearing jeans and t-shirts, their tits are grabbed and pinched by any man who wants to, and more.

"The list of female Indian bloggers is really amazing to look at and their blogs are fascinating, from their excellence in English to the frightening stories of harassment they tell, and the other details of their lives, like trying to decide daily fact from fiction with bird flu hysteria."

Check out the really huge list of blogs.

To continue moving freely and reduce harassment, the women of India can exercise their right to self-defense.

Sexual harassment is about power. To override this attempt to intimidate, Indian women can defend themselves with pepper spray, stun guns and more creative devices of response.

After being sprayed a few times (targets: eyes and face) with hot habanero pepper spray these mendogs bent on pinching and grabbing would back down.

More creatively defensive would be a stunning bra–based on the Howard Hughes designed B-52 nose cone bra, like Marilyn Monroe wore in The Seven Year Itch–the pointed tips would be loaded with a shocking device that stuns the encroaching fingers and hands. Deterrent is key.

In a country known for its non-violence, other possible tools for resistance might be the paint sprayer or cologne splasher–any unwarranted act of boob pinching (or worse) results in being squirted with paint (like Paintball) or doused with strong cologne.

Surely these mendogs have women at home who would never suspect their respectable spouses engaging in such aggressive behavior toward other women, until the cheap cologne or bright orange paint on a expensive suit–the image of the moment of discovery is pleasing.

Resistance is crucial. Women have a right to be.

Fear can be the most powerful tool of all. Especially if you can learn to use it creatively. People fear the unknown most of all. They will believe something as truth not because it actually is true, but because they fear it might be true. A straight out lie, or a lie with a sprinkling of truth, can go a long way. Anyways, thanks for the interesting read, whom ever you are. :-)

(Not a coward, just incredibly lazy. Yeah, that’s it.)
