The iPod Mini – 3.6 oz / $249
p2pnet.net News:- It seems every Apple owner is about to rush off to buy an iPod Mini to complement his or her iPod Maxi mp3 player.
Looking not unlike one of those things you have on the wall to control the temperature, the mini is two ounces lighter than the iPod Mk I (who’d want to lug one of those around!), around half-and-inch shorter and thinner and, “The mini’s trendy, too: My green mini is a far cry from the boring, old, white iPod,” says an Associated Press report here.
If you don’t like green, it’s also available in “a variety of cheerful spring colors” such as blue, pink, silver, or gold, promises PC World here.
You can even get a black elastic armband for a paltry $29, and an ear-plug for a trifling $36.
BUT – there’s a ‘but’. A couple, actually.
“Unfortunately, while it costs $50 less than the 15GB model of the larger IPod line, it’s a bit pricey considering that with the larger IPod you get a much bigger hard drive for the money,” says PC World.
Apple lets you buy the new mini for around $249 so you can use it to pay $.99 a pop for mp3 music tracks from the iTunes online music ’store’.
However, if that doesn’t float your canoe, as they say, not to worry: the mini will also work with “AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 (32 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible, AIFF (Mac only), and WAV formats,” says PC World.
It does not, though, like Microsoft’s Windows Media format.
Finally, the rechargeable battery is safely sealed inside the player, but Apple will replace it if it dies during the one-year warranty. Otherwise, a new battery costs $99, says PC World.
Not at all coincidentally, five class-action lawsuits accusing Apple of misrepresenting claims of the iPod battery life were filed at the end of December.

The iPod mini is less expensive and has more capacity than many high end flash memory based MP3 players. Those with capacities of 512MB or 1GB sell for the $250 to $500 or so.
Compare this to wrist watches. If all that mattered was price we would all be wearing $6 Casios and Rolex would be out of business.
